How do I catch bass?

Post by Shallowdiver »

I am just starting to really get into bass fishing. I have been trying to do it on my own. I have been using senko's. junebug has been the best for me. I have only got a total of 10 bass since I started. Nothing big. If I can get some tips even, that would be fantastic.

Since you sound more interested in catching numbers of bass (but with a shot at a big one) here are a couple articles to get you started.

<A HREF="http://www.trophybassonly.com/id132.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://www.trophybassonly.com/id132.htm</A>

<A HREF="http://www.trophybassonly.com/id103.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://www.trophybassonly.com/id103.htm</A>

<A HREF="http://www.trophybassonly.com/id139.htm" TARGET="_blank">http://www.trophybassonly.com/id139.htm</A>

Honestly though, as much as I enjoy using live bait for Largemouths, I have found that certain artificial lures (big trout patterned swimbaits, in the hatchery-trout-fed ponds, and Bluegill patterned lures during the spawn) make it "easier" to catch giant bass. This is precisely why I started catching so many more double digit bass, when I started throwing more artificial lures, and less live bait. Yet for sheer numbers, and the occasional giant that doesn't want to go any other way, the wiggly stuff is hard to beat :-)

Hope this helps,
Fish

BTW, I have never caught a fish on a Senko..... but then I'm a self admitted oddball, "AND" I have never thrown a Senko :-)

Do you fish the delta near Antioch/oakley? Sherman Island and Big Break are my favorite so far.

Senko's in the areas you mentioned will always catch some bass..You might want to try flipping black and blue jigs with a matching trailer for some just a little larger and a good shot at a teen type bass..

Thanks for the tips Mac. What type of trailer would you use on the black and jigs?

I would use a Yamamoto double tailed grub in a blue or purple color..You could still use real pork if you have it..Try using colors that go with your jig..Cooch has an article in the archives about jig fishing on the Delta, excellent article and about as much information as anyone would need on the subject..
