I had room on my transom inside under the access lid. Drilled a hole into (not through) the plate and threaded it. Used all thread rod taped it with pipe tape so it doesnt damage the prop and bolted it on. Beats attaching it to the top of your hat.

Are we talking about trolling motor props or main engine props?
I picked up a nice padded canvas boat prop cover with velcro on the sides with heavy duty straps on ebay to hold and/or lift. Prop sits nicely with blades down in the storage compartment behind the passenger. Canvas is thick and tough enought not to beat a hole through the fiberglass compartment during long runs.
Here's an item number for one that's ending in about an hour and a half:

You could wrap it in an old towel and save space, but the big deal is bring the prop wrench or proper sized socket and ratchet.
For club tourneys, like a two dayer at Clear lake I just kept it in the truck.

Yeah I'm talking about big motor props, quit playin' around Agner... Okay well I don't have any room in the battery/fuel area. Still want to store it in the rear of the boat, rear compartment. The canvas deal sounds pretty good. The box not so good. Sounds like it would bust through the box and into the boat.

Jason,
I thought you made mention one time or another that you ran a Ranger?
If so the rear compartment of a Ranger has a built in spare prop storage area.

Hipster, yeah I run a ranger Z20. I don't know of any designated place to store the prop in the boat. Yeah I have the room in the rear compartment behind the seat. I was just wondering what to put it in so it doesn't bang around and possibly bust through the fiberglass. Or a way to bolt it down with some sort of mount. I've got the tool and I currently have the nut, washer, pin etc. all wrapped up in towels with the prop. It works but it's bulky and just kinda ghetto.

Jason,
The rear compartment does not have a built in prop holder down by the bilge area in front of the battery charger? weird

No I have a 36 volt system so in front of the battery charger is a battery.

The zippered canvas (reinforced) 'bag' works well. It also allows room for spare hub, nut etc. American Canvas in Montclair , Ca. (So Cal) makes them. I've used the same bag through three boats so far.

A carrage bolt through a piece of plywood, plywood sized to a compartment or secured to the boat. Wing nut holdes prop thrust washers extra shaft nut all securely.
I don't know enough, to leave well enough alone.
