Prop 8 - An Achilles Heel For Obama ? ? ?

Post by hrvestuff »

Proposition 8, (Traditional Marriage Amendment) a mildly controversial constitutional amendment to eliminate the right of same-sex marriage in California may have an impact that will be a plus for the McCain campaign. Without this issue on the ballot, Barack Hussein Obama's chances of carrying California would be improved. However, the fact that Obama has been endorsed by all gay/lesbian groups will likely cause many of those supporting Prop 8, to vote for McCain who has repeatedly stated that he is opposed to the any official recognition of gay marriage in America. Conversely, Obama, in a statement a couple of months ago, while in San Francisco, pledged support to the goals of the Gay Lesbian Front. He made similar statements months back during controversial discussions in Connecticut and Massachusetts where gay marriage is legal.
Why would one think that Obama's chances are diminished by Proposition 8 being on the California ballot?

Let's go back to l982, when HandGun Inc (New York based anti-gun lobby) selected California as the battleground to start the process of eliminating handgun ownership in America. This group was correct in the assumption that California would likely be the most vulnerable of all States to adopt such a referendum. Heavily financed and supported by the L. A. Times, Sacramento Bee chain, and the Bay area newspapers, they engineered Proposition 14 and got a gajillion signatures to get it on the ballot. Hollywood poured a ton of money (as expected) into the campaign. Tom Bradley, Mayor of Los Angeles, who was running for the California governors post, saw that the polls showed Prop 14 way out ahead (by over 20 points) so jumped on it with his endorsement as did many others for political expediency. After all, Prop 14 held a commanding 22-point lead when Bradley endorsed and actively began campaigning in support of it. That was in April of l982 and we, (people who believe in the 2nd Amendment) were facing a near-certain elimination of handgun ownership in California.

Then, along came Senator H.L. "Bill" Richardson, Founder,
Gun Owners of California. He launched a public awareness campaign, recruited hundreds of volunteers to work door-to-door passing out flyers, manning information booths at major swap meets, and with the help of the outdoors media set up fundraisers. up and down the State of California to generate the much needed money to counter the effect of HandGun Inc and Mayor Bradley's campaigns. While the NRA helped as much as they could, but limited as they were fighting the same battle on several fronts, also Cal. Rifle & Pistol Assn. lent their support, but the NO ON Prop 14 attack was led by Gun Owners of California under the direction of H L Richardson. Slowly, in the weeks prior to the general election the gap narrowed.
On Election Day "Middle America" spoke; Prop 14 was defeated. Mayor Bradley, who had been the front runner in the governor's race by as much as 20 points, lost by a very narrow margin. The following day, the Los Angeles Times' lead story carried the headline "Mayor Bradley "Gunned" Down". The evening news had
David Brinkley saying; "Tom Bradley lost not because he was black - but because he supported the proposed ban on handgun ownership in California".... The California Chairman of Handgun Inc openly wept on TV. It was one of the most exhilarating election eves I ever witnessed
.
Could Proposition 8 have a similar effect with the Presidential race, as far as California is concerned? I think there is a great possibility of that happening. Christian and Catholic churches up and down the State of California have instituted and are conducting voter registration drives at their churches following their Saturday and Sunday services. Thousands upon thousands have been registered in the last five weeks. They have voter information pamphlets that have mass distribution all calling for a YES ON 8 (Traditional Marriage Amendment) vote. These pamphlets carry the position of the candidates on the key issues. All show Obama opposing the Traditional Marriage Amendment and McCain supporting it. Additionally these pamphlets distributed show: "Curriculum That Promotes Homosexuality" Obama Supports It. McCain Opposes It. "Taxpayer Funding of Abortion" Obama Supports It. McCain Opposes It.
"Parental Choice For Schools" Obama Opposes it. McCain supports it. "Human Cloning" Obama supports it. McCain opposes it. ...And the list goes on.

Also, available to the churchgoer are plastic yard signs on wire stands calling for a YES ON 8 vote. These are free and are being distributed by the thousands. (Lots of them up in residential areas near where I live).
So, will the efforts of the churches play a role in the outcome of the California election process regarding the success or failure of Barack Hussein Obama? I think we may be in for a big surprise. . Maybe, just maybe, the LA Times lead story will be titled; "Christians Cling to Their Religion and Guns-Defeat Obama".

The good thing is that Obama's defeat would not be blamed on "racism" but good thinking Americans who have a love for God, Country and Family. -hrvestuff

Why McCain would even visit California shows more bad judgement. What a waste of time and Money. He should spend his money on those chance where he has a chance in hell of winning.

I would go postal if someone took my kid to teach them that a choice was fact. Look, you wanna be gay; then be gay!! You can't be "married" because that would be like calling your bass boat a lamp. Marriage is what it is; man and woman, PERIOD. You need access to equal rights, fine--- we can give you a "civil union" and now you're good.

Gay marriage was a farse created by Any twosome Newsome when he realized he had no solutions for the problems in San Fransico. So he created a big distraction. SUCCESS!!! No problems have been fixed.

Please vote yes on Prop 8 and shut these extremists up.
Don't be lame. It's just fishing; you are not the new mesiah you know! Check your attitude at the door Mr. Spinners on da boat trailer.

Dave, it's San Francisco, what do you expect from them? I doubt you'll ever have to worry about someone hauling kids from the foothills down to see a gay wedding in the city.

Run for your local school board so you can have a say in the quality of your childs education.
