I have been using the "Lake fork" 4/0 weighted hook for my basstricks swimbaits, mainly to have a weedless presentation. I have been catching fish but decided that I would like to go deeper now that it is getting cooler.
I went and bought the suggested Blade Runner Tackle "Hollow swimbait hooks 1/2oz / 4/0 hooks.
O.k. with precision I cut the hole with a razor placed the insert in and added "Mend It" to the cut I made, perfect right...
As I sat there and rigged some of my other rods I look over and the belly of my brand new basstricks split like a whore for 20 bucks.
What can be done to stop this from happening. I will not continue to watch money split on me like that, I will have to hire a pimp.. : )_

Re: O.k. swimbait problems
Hold it in place for a minute after adding Mend-It. IN fact - I'd use a wire tire (from a loaf of bread or trash bag) to hold it in place for a while - If you can't figure that out use a strip of tape to hold it in place. Let it dry for as long as you can...
Next make sure you have the right size hook to go with that bait - An oversized hook will never allow the mend-it to dry correctly.
Also - even if your bait is split in two - you can remove the hook and fix the bait with the Mend-It! so nothing is wasted yet - unless you threw is away!
Good luck

Yes, I held it for a while and it was closed.. I put it down for about 15 minutes, looked back at it and the belly split right out. It had nothing to do with the initial cut that was made.
6 inch basstricks paddletail -- 4/0 hook should be the right size..?

Re: O.k. swimbait problems
When you slide the BladeRunner hook into the Basstrix you have to be carefull that the wire keeper on the hook doesn't slice the belly of the Basstrix. It is all about taking your time and watching what you are doing.
I also wet the hook before putting it into the Basstrix. The hook size and weight size are fine for a 6" Basstrix Paddletail.

That keeper hook ring on the bottom of the blade runner will slice it open every time if your not careful. Also you dont need alot of Mend it. Just a little. it works. Good Luck

Re: O.k. swimbait problems
I have been using football heads on my basstrix for a long time and have had great succes. I think it makes the bait even better. I use a 3/8 head . just cut the nose of the basstrixjust enough to make it flat. then you but your football head next to it find out were it will penetrate and poke a hole. Then put the head on with a little glue so it won't slide down. This really stabilizes the shimmy and it lets you bounce it off the bottom. This setup has helped me cash alot of checks.
Re: O.k. swimbait problems
Try Falcon Lures Swimbaits with there long swimbait hook You'll be quite surprised. Granted they Do Not swim like the bass trix but they do trigger as many strikes and much more durable

I re-cut a poison tail jig mold to take 5/0 90% gammis. I can poor them in 1/8 to 1 oz. With a weed guard. Works great for me. The full size basstrix have 4 eyes but I dont think the fish care.

Re: O.k. swimbait problems
Thanks for the help, all..
I was very careful when I put the hook in and "licked it before I sticked it", I am bringing it down to pour design. I have now snipped of that silly little keeper hook ring and used a dremel to make it smooth, we will see what happens next..
Blade runner should actually make two designs, one without the keeper ring. I personally would have never used it anyways, if you don't stick them with the 4/0 or 5/0 too bad so sad...
