Anyone have one of the new Foretec (SP?) MinnKota trolling motors. Thinking about replacing my Pro 80 with the new style if they are indeed as good as rumor has it?

I've been on two boats that had em...
Though I didn't operate them, they didn't seem much different than the standard Maxxum motors. The pedal and mount look different.

Myself, I went back to Motorguide and couldn't be happier after running both the 74 and 101 Maxxum motors. The digital Tour is the real deal and I only fish the delta.

Thanks Long. I have yet to operate a Motorguide but been very leary because of the metal pedal and just in general the older looks of the workings but upon your recommendation I'll definetly be looking at them again.

I have had one for a couple of weeks and used it already about a week of that and love it. No more squeaking each time you give it power. My old 101 , would move from side to side just enough to make a little noise. The new one is totally quit. built very stout. I just spent a few days last week in heavy current on high by pass for 3 to 4 hours at non stop just to move forward very slowly thats how heavy it was . Then pulled out and fished the rest of the day on the lake without current and had no noticable decrease in power. That is a great trolling motor.

Curious Russ if yours has the built in transducer? or if they even come that way yet? MinnKota has yet to get back to me with any of my ?'s. Also do the new holes align with the old ones?

I was in Fisherman's Warehouse this afternoon and saw a couple of the guys repacking a couple of trolling motors. One of them said they were recalled. I wasn't in the market for a trolling motor so I didn't pay too much attention, but I think it was a MinnKota...could be wrong. I have no idea what the problem was.

I'm usually not one to spread rumors, but better safe than sorry. It might be worth a call to Fisherman's Warehouse to get the full story.

Thanks for the info. I actually took my 80 Pro in and had tons of warranty work done so I might just keep it rather than change but still deciding. Might even give the MG a try this year.

Got a Terrova 101 with autopilot. I absolutely love that thing, because I can set it to hold position in current and wind, and just hang there in place while fishing a spot, or simply retying. I've had both Motorguide and MinnKota, and frankly, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. My last trolling motor was a MG Tour 82, 36v. Great motor, lotsa power, and it did the job for years. Fairly bulletproof too. I had a MK with autopilot in the past, and missed the ability to just set the motor on constant speed, locked into a heading, and go do something else on the boat, while staying on a spot. Windy days were a b!#@h with the Motorguide, because I was always tied to the front of the boat, no matter what I wanted to do, because thats where the pedal was. You won't hear any complaints other than that about Motorguide from me, because they're great motors. But when I want to just drift along, and sit in the cockpit and eat a sandwich, or just sit down for a while, I just take the MinnKota pedal with me (long cord), and control the boat from behind the steering wheel. Fits my style of bassin. My buddy swears by his wrist-mounted remote control, but its so easy to just take the pedal with you, I haven't yet felt the need to get one. If I had any complaint about the MK in comparison to a cable controlled motor, its that the head doesn't swivel as fast as I rock the pedal. But this thing hauls my Ranger around like it doesn't weigh anything.
Okay, enough raving about a trolling motor.
By the way, did I mention that I reeeeeally like this thing?

The MinnKotas come with the second-generation xducer, or without... the last one I bought was without, as I still feel that the Lowrance-specific xducer is better than the generic internal.

Also, love the soft start with the MK motors... and much prefer the foot pedal to that of the Motorguide.
