Fishaholic, although I absolutely disagree with Andy Liperts politicial views , I'd take a second to think about what he has sacraficed so we can sit at our computers and type whatever we want, before you go calling him out. Although I disagree with pretty much everything he says, he puts his life on the line to keep us free. He could piss me off more than I ever thought possible, but as long as I'm living in the u.s. enjoying all the things I take for granted and he's out there putting his *** on the line in battle You wont hear me say a bad word about him or any other serviceman

Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually you should go back and read the thread again, I did not call him out, he started in on me and I responded in kind. I don't know this guy as far as I know he is not even in the military he just says that, it won't be the first time someone lied about something like that. He seems to bring up his service (if true) on many threads and evidently he wants to glorify himself on a myspace page (although I did not look at it) so maybe he has a need to be popular and feel like he is somebody...........I don't know.
I do know that IF he is in the military, if he is a grunt or a cook or a latrine cleaner I appreciate his service but again that does not give him a pass in my book. If he is grown up enough to come on this site and discuss his opinions like everyone else does that's fine but when he comes on and starts talking crap and then threaten violence when people talk back to him then maybe he should stay off political threads.

Mr Hall, if you could please state where I "threatened violence" I will never again post on this page. I have absolutely NO problem with you bashing me for my political views or my fishing or anything like that, but when you start discounting what I've done since I've been in the Marine Corps, I've got a major bone to pick with you. My myspace has been private for the past 4 years, and will be private once again within the next couple of days. I made it public, so that a$$holes such as yourself could see what I've done since I've been in the Marine Corps.
If you were to take a look, you would see that not only am I NOT lying about my service to this country, I've taken part in many other operations that I never talk about on this website.
I'm not here for a popularity contest, I'm not here to prove myself. I don't have anything to prove to anyone. I'm just here to debate politics and ruffle a few feathers (as mine are easily ruffled by viewpoints that oppose mine). I'm passionate about politics, as are most of the writers on this forum....So
Call me crazy for how I think, call me a ridiculous brain washed conservative. Tell me that I couldn't catch a bass if my life depended on it... but like I said...
LEAVE MY SERVICE TO THIS COUNTRY ALONE. Because I'll bet every last cent that I have, on the fact that you DO NOT have a DD 214 in your possession. And you'll probably never have any idea of what one is, unless you've google it.
Everyone else, thank you for your support. I don't ask for a free card because I'm a Marine, never have, never will. Thanks again.

Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Politics aside....How does someone who obviously never served any interest other than their "own" question someone elses service to their country?
We dont know how the people of Iraq receive our servicemen and women, we don't know 5% of what's really gone on over there, we only know what we can read or watch on T.V., how could any of us be more informed than someone who has been there? Remember the news focuses primarily on the negative aspects.
Rather your for or against the war in Iraq, you should bow to men like Andy for the freedom to exist, the freedom to express yourself. You owe people like him everything you hold dear, if not for people like Andy you and I and everyone else would more than likely be wearing drab colored clothing and listening to state run boradcasts extholing the virtues of communism.
It has never ceased to amaze me how someone with the nads of a mouse can run their mouth like yourself. For someone who doesn't have the courage, bravery or honor to serve their country, when it comes to someone elses service your answer should really be "no comment"

Hey Andy, what do you think about re-instituting the draft so we can lessen the time you need to spend over there. As much time as our troops spend there now they should be offered dual citizenship with oil stocks as a retirement fund.

This is what they thought implied violence, tho the term was never mentioned that's how many would take it. But, you're only 24.Andy Lippert wrote:If you'd like to talk further trash about my service to this country and the Marine Corps, I'd be happy to do it face to face. Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greg,
Reinstituting a draft is a tough subject to cover. I'm not gonna give my whole opinion on it but I think every American male should have to serve atleast a couple years in the military. Deployments for Marines are typically only 7-8 months (12 months for support elements). The Army depoys for 12-15 months, and the chAir Force is usually only there for 2-6. I honestly feel badly for the Army. 15 months would be a looong time. The longest I spent over there was 7 1/2 months and that wasn't a good time. Now that Iraq is winding down and we're looking at major drawbacks, I don't think a draft would be needed. We'll be shifting most of our forces to Afghanistan, shortly, and that will help out the forces that are already there. The Marine Corps has an end-strength goal of growing our forces from 179,000 to 202,000 within the next couple of years, and we're well on our way to completing that goal, early. Drafting guys into the military during a controversial war isn't a good idea.
The patriotism and willingness to serve, as a result of the September 11th attacks, has drawn down to a lull and I think that that patriotism and willingness to serve must be exist in the majority of society for a draft to be successful. If not, you just have a bunch of unwilling, disgruntled guys who are unhappy with their membership in the armed forces.
It's a tough question, like I said before, but unless we get attacked by a major opponent and sustain casualties far greater than we have in OIF/OEF by our volunteer forces, I think we oughta just keep it where it currently is...letting those who want to be here, serve.

I appreciate the thanks Brush-trout, and so do all my buddies who have put their a$$es on the line to keep America free. It's guys like hall, a$$attack, and bss hunter that we couldn't care less about getting support from, and quite frankly, we prefer it that way. If we had it their way we'd have left Iraq a few years ago, heads-down in defeat, only to arrive back home to get shunned by the volvo station-wagon driving liberal whack-jobs. I don't fight for those people, Brush, never have, never will. Thanks again for the support. It's what keeps us goin.
If you are a Marine like you claim to be and I have no reason to believe you aren't, yes you do in fact fight for the Volvo driving liberal whack jobs. They are Americans and you signed up to fight for America...In fact you should be a little more appreciative to all those dang liberal tax payers, after all they are paying your wages and if you have dependents the libs are paying the freight on them too. You are not the only military guy on these boards, perhaps you should remember that.....
As far as whether Iraq is good or just cause is above your pay grade. A soldiers job is to go where they are told to go and fight who they are told to fight. I support the U.S. military 100%, but that doesn't mean that going to war in Iraq was the right thing to do. President Bush sent our soldiers to Iraq and it was a very bad decision. I couldn't care less if things in Iraq are better or worse than they were in 2003...so what? If you asked me before the war (war on terror by the way, not a war to make Iraq a better place) if the life of one U.S. soldier was worth making Iraq a better place I would have said hell no. I have a whole lot more respect for the U.S. soldier than president does apparently. He is willing to kill and cripple American soldiers so some Iraqi who will end up hating Americans anyway will have a better life...who cares?
The so called conservatives think they have the market cornered on tough actions...By your standard I'm probably a liberal whack job because I'm not in line to kiss Bush's a$$, but my foreign policy would be a whole lot tougher than Bush's. I would have crushed Afghanistan and sent in the U.S. military to gut bin Laden. If they had to kill have the people there and blow up every house in the country to do it, so much the better. We would have left with bin Ladens head in a box and I wouldn't have paid a dime to fix anything in the country....it would have been a good object lesson for the world...ie...if you house someone that has attacked the U.S. we'll destroy your country and if you think we are going to pay you for what got broken...well it ain't gonna happen...Believe me the next time we told some third world thug country to turn a terrorist over they would do it...or they wouldn't and we'd unleash the full force of the military once again....As far as Iraq is concerned, they weren't a threat to us and if they became a threat we could have whipped their butts and left there country destroyed.....
...Osama bin Laden attacked us. He had nothing to do with Iraq and he is still on the loose, thanks to Bush and company allowing him to escape Tora Bora....That whole operation well illustrates what Bush thinks of the U.S. military....he didn't send in American troops to kill the guy that attacked us, he opted to pay foreign mercinaries to do the job and they let the guy go....Our military always does a great job, the broken gear in the machine in this case is the failure George Bush....

I think everyone missed the boat here this man insulted me reather he be just a civilian or in the forces that dont make a crap one way or another. I can take ribbing hell if any of you have been around the last 10 years then yall know that for a fact. This was an attack by a man nothing more on another man.Andy Lippert wrote:Dom,

I put my thought out there and he wants to hide behind being in the forces. NOT COOL ! I am open to being educated I dont have all the answers I am fishing everyday from the news to the net to Mike Savage to Rush. And if I was wrong then some insightful info would have sufficed, but no Assandy had to attack me personally.
So all other bs aside I attacked back. and now Mr. solder boy is trying to pick a throw down with an elderly man over words thats just cowardly I have no problem going face to face with you ANDY anytime anyplace you got millitary trainning, I got street trainning. Ask around I dont run I stand my ground so if your ever feeling like you want to beat up on an old man come this way I promise you I will be alot more fun.
Or you can handle this the Grown up way and just let it go everyone hears you but no one agrees or should I say 75% of America, we should have never invaded Iraq we should have finished the job on ol Saddam back in desert storm and been done there. Im always around feel free to look me up anytime I wont avoid you and thats a PROMISE.
EDIT .... Dude I just seen your pics you are not the Andy I thought you were my bad on the baits thing, but what are you 100 lbs soaking wet ? I would feel like a bully fighting you No Match lol I think you could take him Greg LMFAO what a joke lol

Dom,
You caught me. 100 lbs soaking wet. Golly gee.
Actually Anderson Silva and I are the exact same size, guess you'd kick his a$$ because of the size advantage (well I wouldn't call it advantage) wouldn't you? You know what Dom. You could whoop me up. I'm sure your "street training" trumps my black belt Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor status any day. I train/fight Marines and am not used to going against grossly overweight, out of shape pillsburry dough-men such as yourself. So I'm just going to throw in the towel before this goes any further. You beat me Dom. You won. I forfeit.
As for hiding behind the "forces". I will say again for the LAST time, I have never once hidden behind the forces. All I ask is that you make fun of anything except what I do for a living, serving this country. That's all. Call me stick boy, say I pick on "elderly men" tell me that Greg would beat me up. I don't care. That's all good. But to talk crap about what I do for a living is wrong, and I think most of us agree on that. I think the dead horse has bruises.
Bass Attack-
When I say that I don't fight for those kind of people, I mean that they aren't the ones that motivate me to step onto the battlefield. Nothing more, nothing less. About whether Iraq is good or a just cause, I merely have an opinion. I am not writing policy on this website, and everyone is entitled to an opinion no matter what the pay grade, buddy. Thanks for lookin' out for me, though.

Mr Lippert, Greg covered it where I think you implied violence so I will leave that one alone. YOU are the one that keep bringing up your service not me. But when you attack me (verbally) by saying I don't know this or I am scared of this because you are in the service, well I believe YOUR service is fair game.
Like I said I don't know you and I don't know if your in the service or not and I really don't even care. If you are in the service I appreciate what you and your fellow Marines and servicemen do but don't use your service to attack me because I will recipricate.
With all that said, if anyone and I mean anyone, including a marine black belt instructor calls me out I won't back down from that. I have been around for 48 yrs and I have not backed down yet and I won't start now.
Your best bet and anyone elses for that matter is to not threaten violence ever on a forum. I can't tell you the things people have said about me (including you btw) and it just rolls right off, it may piss me off a little but I don't lose any sleep on what you or anyone else thinks of me. If you can't take a verbal attack of any kind then your best bet is to stay off forums all together.
Good luck

Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dom , in your post . Did you mean that you had been a Rep. but changed this year to a Dem.?
Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Rod to tell you the truth I dont really know what I was till this year things got tough for alot my family are all rep. and my sister mainly a rep the way I was always told was rep were for the rich and dems for the middle class and poor well I never claim to be rich so I guess I would say I am a dem when I said I switched I ment I use to support Bush the first couple of years I mean come on he is from my home state he is a TEXAN!
I slowly learned over the years he was not all that so I switch my support to Obama becuase I felt Macain would echo Bush's ideas so if Obama was a rep I guess I would have been a rep I just liked what the guy had to say and how up front he was about calling out the rich ,bush, wall street ,etc..
Again I just want change my biggest concern is imgration I feel the influx of illegals and the so called legals due to a fam ily member being a citizen is and has destroyed America our schools are over crowded, social services depleted,Unemployment rate is high,Crimes are up think about it flip the wrong guy off on the freeway he pulls out a gun shoots you and heads for the boarder no tracking, no ss#. no ID, no figer prints becuase in America he dont exsist how is that protecting my family?
They want to come here and change my beliefs I had to attend a school meeting becuase they were trying to take the word GOD out of the pledge thats BS you want to come here then follow our traditions or keep yours to yourself.
I just signed a petition along with a vast majority of other parents becuase they want to teach our kids about MUSLIUMS
again keep the religion to God its what this country was founded on I dont want my kids pushed or even showed another religion when they are older then they can choose but they are impressionable in elementry and jr high and these people know it.
So I guess I am what ever fixes the problem.

Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dom, I promised myself that I would not post another reply on this forum. But, once again, your text has inspired me. The concerns that you addressed in your last post show me that you have republican ideals. What is it about Obama's ideals are you so fond of? It is my understanding that, based on what you mentioned in your post, you should have gone out and voted for McCain? Did you follow the election very closely, or did you just hear the word "change" and run with it. Obama's entire campaign was built on one word, "change." That doesn't mean that your problems are going to be fixed, and that all that bothers you will be changed.
What I am trying to say is this. Obama ran a celebrity campaign, and he appealed largely to those that bought his propaganda. He relied on people that were unwilling to form their own opinion. And sir, if you think that republicans = the ultra wealthy and democrats = the middle class, you are SOOOO very wrong. I wish you the best these next 4 years, and I hate to say it, but it will be families such as yours that suffer the most from this horrible American decision.
My solution looking towards the future: Before we all rush out and fill out that little ballot we take so much pride in, each person should be subject to a current events test, to determine if they actually know whats going on out there. Everyone gets to vote, but not all votes count. I am so tired of listening to people that voted for Obama, when in reality, their fundamental beliefs pointed them in the way of McCain. They were just not informed enough to make a educated decision.
Dom, what is Obama's policy on immigration, and how does it vary from McCain's? Please, without doing a search on google, let me know.

I've been watching this thread for a few days and I would like to share my opinions and observations.
Fishahalic and Dom, you are both disrespectful idiots! I expect that from Fish, since we have been in a few arguments in the past and that is the way he is. I dont know Dom but from what I've seen. I suspect he is not old enough to vote.
There are many veterans on this forum, and all deserve our respect. The cooks, bakers, mechanics and other "support" personnel deserve it just as much as the "operators". I dont know what Andy did in the Corps, but I suspect he was not "support". Either way, both of you should feel like idiots!

and
Brush-trout I watched all three debates I made plans around my life and family so it was a priority to watch. I watch the Walters interview ,etc... I never heard Macain call out the Bush admin. not once then when he named Palin I thought WOW! what a band wagon jumper they seen the support of Hilary and thought this was the way to the white house again seemed like at the time it was more of a stunt then legit political views.
I just did not feel the trust I felt after hearing Obama I read how everyone was trying to make him a Muslim when in fact I did research and found out he had equal number of years education on catholic and muslim and read his Grandmother wanted him to see and learn not take sides.
Then I seen and heard the whole "joe the plumber" well I am sorry I feel the same way if a man makes 250,000 a year I feel America gave him that opertunity and he should pay more back to America. I just hear this morning on Rush that the CEO of GM made 25 million dollars this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But yet they want my hard earned tax dollars to bail em out (I could not spend 25 million in a life time who needs that much money?) Anyway back to the point Obama said he would lock down the borders thats what I heard and since I believe him I ran with that.
He just seemed more trust worthy to me and honest So as for his policies he wants to lock it down is what I got and took.
I mean come on does anyone see whats happen right here in California ? We had an amazing influx of over 2 million illegals over the last 8 years all working in the building and construction industry, I know this for a fact I delivered materials to the job sites and my Brother-in-law is a Lic. Contractor he was having to compete with the cheaper labor. Now that industry has fell and unemployment is thru the roof the state of Ca is BROKE! and all I ever hear when I call an illegal out is your standing in Mexico do the History!
Well I did learn my History and we KICKED *** to take this land Remember the Alamo? And now they are taking it back not by fighting for it with honor but by the trojan horse tactic.
I believe every man deserves a better life for him and his family but I also believe if I am to follow the laws of our land so should the next guy. And trust me I blame our American companies as well they dont give a crap about America all they care about is the profits from cheap labor I say TAX the hell out of em and if they choose to leave BYE! let em leave if there is a void in America that needs to be filled someone will fill it Look at Hershey Plant in Oakdale,Ca They left everyone cried and someone came in and filled the void.

Glad to see this place getting a bit livelier. Truth be told, I myself am just now getting over my hangover from the long political season.
Mr. Lippert if you're going to be throwing personal attacks around, you'd better grow some tougher skin. People serve this country in a lot of different ways but that doesn't make them immune from criticism. I personally believe that teachers provide as important a service to this country as the military, but some conservatives show no recluctance to criticize and belittle their service.
That's pretty funny Brush-Trout, the fact that you think people who voted for Obama didn't understand the issues or are uneducated.
The fact is, a large number of conservatives believe:
that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
that embryonic stem cells come from aborted babies.
that Saddam was responsible for 911.
that global warming is a hoax.
All of which are completely untrue, and anyone who reads or watches the news would know that.
The fact is that the more educated a person becomes the more liberal they become. In my line of work I personally know dozens of people with Ph.D.s and M.D.s. and nearly all of them are card carrying Democrats.
Also, you're premise that the Republicans are better for the middle class is laughable. All the evidence you need is to look at the current bailouts. When it came to giving the rich fatcats on Wallstreet hundreds of billions of dollars, the Republicans were eager to jump on the bandwagon. However, now when the auto industry wants a much smaller loan (not even a handout) the Republicans say no. Several of the Republicans have said that their strategy is to let the auto industries go bankrupt in order to bust the unions. So the Republicans are willing to sacrifice millions of middle class American jobs just because of their hatred for the unions. Yeah, the Republicans love the middle class.

Re: Just sit back and watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeff C and Dom, you both have some very valid points. Maybe it all boils down to how we interpret different parties and their ideals. For me, as far as the economy, health care, and foreign policy goes, I consider myself a republican, but when it comes to the environment and so on, I am more in the middle, leading towards liberalism.
I don't think that the right is geared more towards the ultra wealthy, although in recent times it does appear that way. I personally am sick of all the bailouts, I think they are ridiculous.
But, anyhow, I do respect your opinions, I have much more respect for people who have a backbone and a strong opinion, versus those who just fold whenever someone opposes their beliefs. Its been nice chatting with you all, now I have to get ready to catch some stripes this weekend!

typical
attact the man - not the message.
Message was simple - I know how to spend my money, build my business, better than you - the government.
McCain's failure was not adopting that message and running with it in July. rather than tryuing to be all things to all people.
Fact is - Obama / McCain.... other than years of experience there isn't a lot of difference in either.
If you (OR I!) had real courage and wanted 'change' we would have voted for Ralph Nadar or Ron Paul.......

Yes, you would think so but here are the results. The point is not that they are unintelligent but that they are uninformed. 97.1% High School Graduate or higher. But I do think that you and Dom are smarter than most Democrats.
Zogby Poll
512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points
97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates
Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions
57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)
71.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)
82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)
88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)
56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).
And yet.....
Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes
Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter
And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her "house," even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!
Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.
Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we "gave" one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

How many Republican voters knew or remembered that McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts or that McCain was a sponsor of the recent illegal alien amnesty bill that was eventually shot down?
The fact is, the majority of the electorate, regardless of political persuasion, are not as informed as they ought to be. The difference is that conservative politicians use deception and ignorance as a political strategy, and Republican voters eat it up, hook line and sinker.
How many Republican voters believe:
that evolution is still undecided science,
that global warming is a myth,
that Saddam was responsible for 911,
that Barack Obama is a muslim.
Face it, the Republican party has become the anti-education, anti-science, anti-rational thought party. Bush himself used to joke about his "C average" college performance; however, I don't think his lack of intellect is as bad a reflection on him as it is on his constituents who voted for him, twice no less.

Face it, the Republican party has become the anti-education, anti-science, anti-rational thought party. Bush himself used to joke about his "C average" college performance; however, I don't think his lack of intellect is as bad a reflection on him as it is on his constituents who voted for him, twice no less.

Did Saddam have any ties to the 911 terrorists
