NEW ROD ADVICE

Post by WANNA HOOK BIGGIN'S »

I need some advice on buying a new rod for senko's, pitchin jigs, & T-rigged or shottin creatures/craws. I'm looking for a 6'8" to 7' probably M/H matched with a curado. Online trying to compare crucials, powell, st. croix avid's, dobyns, & fenwick elite tech. Wanna stay in the $150 to $200. Going to ISE saturday to put my hands on some. I notice almost all manufactures have a fast to extra fast tip for this application, is this what is needed? The one's I have held seem a little stiff in the tip. Please help a new Delta fisherman. Thanks to everyone in advance. Great place to gather info.

The St Croix Avid 6' 8" is a great choice. The Avid series maybe the best rod on the market for the money. Their technology at St Croix is way ahead of the rest the industry, and they dont skimp on the components. It has a light enough tip for good presentation and still has plenty of back bone. Plus it's right in the price bracket that you are looking for.

Best Wishes for Big fishes

I know this is a little above your price range but I would go with the 7' Heavy. We will be at the ISE Sacramento so stop by and check them out. I gaurantee they will be the lightest most sensative rod at the show. ( even lighter than the $490.00 Diawa Steez  . http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpage ... -PUMC.html# and for all you get, Toray T40 Blank, Fuji Sic Guides, custom reel seat. They are priced way, way lower than anything comparable. So stop by and say hey.

Powell 684, 704, or 734. Although the 734 is 7'3", I think you'll like it. I've personally used all 3 and really like the 734. Also good with blades and buzzbaits.

St. Croix has also released a series of rods called Bass Mojo which are in the price range of $90-$120. You may want to check those out at their booth.

I'm not going to try to tell you that one is better than the next, just let your hands tell you. Make sure you pick up the new Dobyns rods at the show before you buy you new rod. Feel them all and make the best choice for you.

Agree. I have a 704, and 734....great rods. For the price you seriously can't beat a Powell, they really are the whole package that makes up a great bass rod. Ive torture tested mine (I fish salt alot too) and never had a performance issue with their conventional or flyrods.

Stop by the St. Croix booth. Check out the 6'8" and the 7' MF or MHF in the Avid. Lifetime warranty, built here in the USA. Also stop by and see Randy Pringle, he's got some rod sleeves that you need to check out. They have a tip protector, one of the only rod sleeves out there with that, plus those are lifetime warranty too. Their made by Berserk Baits www.berserkbaits.com. Black Dog has new lure wraps too made by Berserk, check those out Saturday too.

For your price range, I would HIGHLY recommend the Fenwick Techna AV 7' MH ... VERY nice rod. At Amazon, it's 'only' $170 with free shipping and no tax!!

I have some 7' Med heavy, heavy and ex heavy Jig Rods at Cooch's. Book a trip with Cooch and try them out or just go by and look at them. They are priced at $150.00 for ceramic guides and $185.00 for REC titanium wire guides. These are the best rods you will find for the price. All have a life time warranty.

I you're gonna hook big uns, then get a flippin'stick. You need to hit'em hard and turn their heads. If you're looking for lake fishing, you can go with something less.

Vince you need to get your head out of the clouds. LOL

I have seen the new Phenix rods and I will admit they are nice but in NOW way do they compare to the Steez rods. ha ha

Do you know if they are going to increase there selection and add more rods to there line?

Do the right thing and go to the show and check out all the rods your looking at.

Sorry Trace I think I might have hit pm on accident.
