Hart and Zank are simply amazing at NBW's Castaic event

Post by Lynne »

1/10/2009 CASTAIC

Today the wind was making this event very iffy. Lucky for the 36 teams that braved the wind the tournament did go on and Zank and Hart took first place for the third time in a row for National Bass West!!! Total payout was $9,540.
Congrats to Mike Hart and John Zank once again. Not only did they bring in the biggest bass of the tournament weighing 7.26# but their 5 fish limit weighed.....22.83#!!! Great job. Congrats also to Troy Lindner and Bill Siemantel for coming in second today with 14.97#.

In the morning all of the boats were out and fishing by 7:05 a.m. well except for Derrek Stewart. Derrek, fishing alone, having trolling motor trouble. Mike and Derrek patched the troll motor back together with....duct tape and off Derrek went. Well wouldn't you know that at the end of the event during our mystery weight presentation, the angler that drew out the mystery weight drew a weight that put Derrek Stewart winning the $340. That should about cover the cost to fix his trolling motor....for me it's the Lord's perfect timing for Derrek.

Below please find the results for our event along with the winnings totaling $9,540 for the 36 teams. Gotta love our sponsors helping us to payout 100% back to the anglers. SKEETER BOATS, YAMAHA MOTORS, RIVER MARINE, WHITE CAP, SAWYER COOK & CO (for all of your insurance needs) and PEREGRINE 250 to help protect/clean both you boat and truck.

For the results, photos (which should be up soon thanks to Roger LaRocque) and the most current year to date standings, please check out our website at www.nationalbasswest.com

Our next event for Castaic is on February 21, 2009. Please check our website or back here to find out which ramp we are going out of. Most likely it will be the WEST RAMP but this could change.

Thanks for all of the support that you are giving to National Bass West....we want the very best for you the anglers.

GO CHARGERS!!!!

Congratulations to Hart and Zank and also to everyone who showed up to brave the wind, I felt it wasn’t as bad as the forecast.

I launched myself and I tied up to the only spot available on the dock. After parking and returning to the dock the bow of the lifeguard boat was directly over my big motor. I decided I would move off the dock using the trolling motor. I was very close to the water’s edge and as I went to move away from the dock a trailer came down the ramp into the water and eliminated my route to deeper water. Strong winds pushed my trolling motor right into the concrete ramp. I tried to lift the trolling motor but the entire weight of the boat was against the shaft. When I finally got the t motor up for some reason the pressure caused the plastic housing on the top unit to break and many of the internal parts came apart including the cable, some parts found their way into the lake.

After spending and hour on the dock taking everything apart and putting it back together and using duct tape and testing it seemed that it would work. Well no such luck after my run to my first spot I put the T motor down and it wasn’t working. After an hour of attempting to drift fish in a strong wind and beaching on sand banks I had had enough. Determined I took everything apart again and this time with electrical tape I taped each piece part by part and then went over everything with duct tape. Another hour gone by and I put it down in the water and I was able to steer. It wasn’t perfect as the alignment and the foot peddle where out of sync, to go forward the peddle position was pushed to the floor all the way forward, but it was far better than nothing.

I wasn’t going to give up. It was personally satisfying to get the trolling motor back up and even more so to make it to the scales.

Thank you to everyone who assisted at the dock, especially Brandon Widick, Troy Lindner, N. Langer, and Mike Peterson from National Bass West. For my fellow competitors I know what it means to launch, park the truck, meet your partner on the dock and get everything ready for take off. So stopping and offering assistance was much appreciated and it speaks to your character.

shout out to the Trolling Motor Dr.

Post by Derrek Stewart »

I would like to give a big shout out to the Trolling Motor Doctor in Lakewood CA 800 944 9446. Took my T motor in on Monday and they had it ready on Wednesday. I asked for a quick turnaround because I was scheduled to travel to Oroville today. Cool part was all the repairs were covered under warranty, which left me with enough cash to take advantage on a good deal on a reconditioned back up trolling motor. Thank you Nick and Ann, it is always a pleasure doing business with professionals.
