Replacement tail for AC minnow

Anybody for a fishing related post? (!) Ribbing aside, what is the best replacement for the AC or OB tail? I have it half @ss repaired with mend-it but won't be surprised when it's gone. How do you go about removing the metal pegs to replace it without gouging the bait?

I have a couple hammers and could see one on there. How did you get the pegs out/in without tearing shiz up?

Tear out what is left of your old tail. Then take a pair of needle nose and grab the pins from the inside of the slot that the tail was in and carefully push them sideways to the outside of the bait. put the new big hammer tail where you want it and then push the pins back through it.
More than likely you're gonna chip a little paint around the peg holes, I dont know any way of completely avoiding that

I believe you pull the two nails out, clean the inside area, insert new tail/glue, and put the pins back in. If you really have a prob. email ac plugs about it or get a ms slammer

Sounds good, it's time for a little surgury. I already got a Slammer, tail in tact on that one. Wouldn't mind if I had this problem with that one soon..........

OK, I have a couple AC minnows and for the life of me I have ZERO confidence in them. First they dont seem to wake for me until right at the boat. Is there a different retrieve I should try beyond a straigt reel back? It seems no matter how fast or slow I reel em in they crank down and do not wake? Any suggestions???

They will dive on you if retrieved even slightly too fast. If it's diving, stop and let it surface. Raise your rod tip then start crankin slow until it starts to wake and clack (leaving your rod tip raised a bit). I like to leave the clip on this bait also.

Like tarpon said....Hold your rod tip with a little higher attitude and reel just fast enough to hear the "clack" much faster than that and the bait will go subsurface.

You gotta keep your rod real high on the retrieve. Or, you could fish a slammer and not have to worry about rod height so much.

There are better "wake" baits out there that won't have this issue: Slammer, 3:16 Wake Jr., etc
