I don't think RC gives a rat's rear end about sponsors, FLW, WON, number of entrants or paybacks, at least not as far as this statement goes. I think he is talking about purity. The pure, unadulterated, challenge that is...Lake Mead in August. IT is the challenger and to compete against it is to say you have competed on a deeper, one on one level that simply can't be equaled anywhere on any body of water; not the great lakes, not Clear Lake, no where.

There's a lot of talk on this thread about sponsors, and money, and connections, and entrant numbers, and folks trying to have a pro/biz appearance and I think it all misses RC's point. I think of it this way:You can be in the service, you can even have a chest full of medals, but if you want to call yourself a soldier, you need to have seen combat.

The Open, for all its faults, its ups and downs, is pure combat and to have fished it, win or lose is to have confronted your self on all levels. Forget your sponsors (or lack of), forget the payback (or lack of) and test yourself. And that is what I think RC meant.

Hi John Just wanted to say Hi. Sure would like to see ya.I will be fishing the West Coast Bass event at Shasta on the 19th and 20th. I can't . I have not been fishing much just having to stay busy at work until this housing market gets a bit better. Although things are finally looking up and doing a lot better. Larry has a great schedule for next year .I think If he hangs in there he could build it up like the old days.He does have some pretty exciting stuff cooking for next year that he may reveal at Shasta. It should make everyone happy to fish all his events. Say High to all for me . If you need a place to stay for Shasta just call me your always welcome up here.530-949-2103
