Classic on the delta

Post by Jim Conlow Sr. »

I am uner the impression that a big audiance for the weighin is one of the major considerations for the selection of the location of the classic. Would we get enough spectators to satisfy the needs of the classic audiance and where would the weighin be held?

Im just looking for some thoughtful opinions that we can all discuss

I think a Classic on the Delta would be AWESOME, but I think considering there was only 5900 spectators on Sunday Stockton might get the boot......

The 2009 Classic on the Red River drew 137,700 for the event. That will be hard to beat.

What you did NOT have at this weekends event was the outdoor expo that comes with the Classic. Tackle show, boat exhibits, all the hoopla that comes with the FINALS. Think regular season game vs game 7 of the World Series. Bet your a$$ it would be packed. Most of the Bassboat Mfg's bring their national displays. It would be like the Bass-a-thon on steroids. Count me in, as I used to go to all the summer classics, but that would draw a great crown IMHO. Rick G.

5,900 On the final day weigh in is fantastic! Also there seemed to be alot more interest and support this go round than '07 imho.I saw so many local boats running around all week , more than there has been all year.I for one was impressed with the amount of the enthusiasim that came with the duel on the delta! It is a positive thing and I hope bass saw the same thing and hopefully will bring the opens back next year!!!!I am all in and I am fired up! Let's support them and get our chance to qualify for the elites! I agree with Rick g. bring the classic and the expo that comes with it and I am sure it would be packed! That is the show of all shows!!!!!

Get AAAArnold to pitch it before he leaves office.
Maybe get him to be the point man for the delegation to BASS once he's "retired".
He loves Caulifornia.

I think it would be great! I would definitely go. I have been to the last two splitting time between working the Black Dog display and walking around AND going out on the town :D They have always been a complete blast! It sucks just a little that I'm moving back to California the year that the BMC is in New Orleans .... oh to have that show in the town I've been living for four years would be priceless!

In an interview they said that was the best turnout they've seen for a regular season event!

NOTE in this article, its SACRAMENTO thats trying to get the Classic, NOT Stockton. Arco Arena is also mentioned.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Bassmaster Classic, America’s oldest and most prestigious bass fishing tournament, may be heading to California’s Delta, land of big bass and even bigger controversies.

In its storied 40-year history, the Bassmaster Classic has been held west of the Mississippi River once, and that was the inaugural event organized by BASS founder Ray Scott on Lake Mead in 1971. That could change in 2013 if a Sacramento sports group can persuade BASS to bring the world’s biggest fishing show to California and the Delta, where smelt and water issues are much bigger concerns than fishing.

“It’s going to be a challenging bid, but it’s a very doable one, and we’re very seriously looking at it,â€
