anybody use a 7' 10" rod for cranckin or throwing a frog ?

I use a Dobyns 805 CB for throwing DD22's and the larger Poes crankbaits and a Lamiglas Delta Frog Rod that is 6'8". The 7'10" might be a little long for frogs, and I doubt the same rod would be ideal for both. Your talking about two completely different actions. Just my .02

I think it would be to flimsy.. I use my loomis jig rod with braid for frogs.

I use the KVD 7'10" Launcher for deep crankin. It would not be good for froggin. I think you will need two different rods for those applications.

I own the rod and I love it for DD22s, small hard swimbaits and big spinnerbaits, but I would not use it for a Frog rod, not stout enough for that

Instead of using a cranking rod, I bet you could try a cheap flipping stick. A frog rod would be best, but I would try the flippin stick before a cranking rod.

I think Bobby Barrack uses a 7' 10". Depends on preference and what type of froggin you do

New Quantum KVD Launcher is 7-10 Friend has it loves it.
Recommended for bigger cranks dd-22 ,fat free shad,series 5,6 strike king.

I use three crankin rods,

7-6 lamiglass rod long casts mid to bigger baits,rattle traps
7-6 Quantum graphite crank rod finesse crankin ,speed traps lakes.
7 american rod smiths glass rod mid size baits post spawn real soft

No rod I crank with be a frog rod!

Is your question whether or not anyone chooses a 7'10" rod length for their crankbait or frog rod? Or did you want to know if anyone uses the same a 7'10" rod to toss crankbaits and frogs?

If it's the first question, then yes. The trend is longer rods for distance, control, etc. May not be the best length for target casting or fishing around docks. But open water, heck yeah. Go with a longer rod and bomb the casts out there. That's why Randy McAbee has that 8' model in the Dobyns line up and why you're seeing many crank rods in the 7.5+ range, including main stream companies like Quantum.

If it's the second question, nope. Totally different baits requiring totally different actions.

Though I have seen stranger things....like when Mendez caught a 10lber on a 5" Senko in Disco Bay using a Lamiglas cranking rod. Swear to God. I lipped it for him. I still laugh and shake my head about that one. Maybe out of envy...
