Lake Castaic and Smallmouth

Post by DaveH »

Picked up a nice little small mouth this week at the upper lake, anyone else ever catch one there, this one was just 12 inches, I'm wondering if it was bought in or there's been some success with a spawn of the fish?
Anyone else catch one up there? Image

I actually a few months ago caught a smallmouth that went just over 3lbs and the very next cast got another one in the pound and a half range so, they're in there and in heavier numbers than we think. Good looking one you got there.

Not sure if is a good thing. We have had a few good largemouth lakes up here in Washington State that have seen the numbers dwindle when the smallmouth were introduced. Maybe it just relocated the largemouth somewhere, but they were not there in the usual haunts.

Smallies are a blast.
I think they'd be great in Castaic.
Now, if you want the stripers, you can have them.
