Issues with Brand New Sahara SH500FD

I just picked up a Shimano Sahara SH500FD reel on Saturday. I mounted it on a GLoomis GL2 6' Mag-Light Rod and loaded it up with 4lb. Mono. The handle turned smooth at the shop, when I spooled it up, and even for the first 4-5 fish. Then it became very difficult to turn the reel handle at different times on pretty much every cast after I would stop reeling. I adjusted the drag both directions, and then tried adjusting the handle nut in both directions as well. Not sure what the problem is, anybody else have that happen? I know this isn't a typical bass reel, I purchased it to use on my panfish / trout rod.

I suggest taking it back to the dealer where it was purchased for exchange.
