I have a Ranger 520 and I want to upgrade to a Minn Kota 101. My friend has one that has a 52in shaft for sale. The motor on my boat now is a 42in shaft. I fish the delta the most and often up tight to the bank. What are your thoughts on the larger motor and is it possible to put a smaller shaft on the motor.
Thanks SFDFISHINFOOL!!!!!
Minn Kota Question
Re: Minn Kota Question
The motor will be fine for the delta just raise the shaft and the longer version is nice when fishing lakes in the wind

Re: Minn Kota Question
Of course it'll stick up higher when you raise your motor for skinny water, and the more it sticks up the more it will get in the way when your fishing. I believe a trolling motor repair shop could probably cut the shaft down for you if you think it's going to be in the way.

Re: Minn Kota Question
Thank for the replys!!!
I know I can buy a 42in shaft for it, but I don't know if you can put a smaller one on.

Re: Minn Kota Question
52" is very long I have a 50'' motor guide and while it is good for rough water most all the time it sticks up too high and is in the way. Guys like Jay Lui and the troll doctor in Sac. can cut down the shafts.. the labor will cost ya. Also the wire harness can be longer as well with the long shafts and that gets in the way too and is a tough fix.
the best way to catch a big one is don't lose um sharp hooks set drag retie!

Re: Minn Kota Question
i hate to bust your bubble, but the break for Minnkota's on the
mounts is 48 inches. shortening the shaft makes the motor sit higher
on the mount. the 52" mount wont work on a shorter shaft.
I'd wait for 1 that will fit.
