102c

Post by Kevin Evans - Kap »

no power to the unit, just shut off. It happened Sunday while I was fishing the WRL on McClure. I had just reset the default settings on my HDS-7 but did not power down the 102 unit.. Any suggestions is appreciated and thank you in advance.
Have yet to try it again to see if it was just a intermittent thing, I hope its not to bad.

Thanks,

Kap

Resetting the HDS would not have any effect on the 102 like this. The only issue we have seen with regards to resetting anything when an HDS is networked to a legacy unit is when the user resets the fishing mode in HDS. This causes the legacy unit to perform a hard reset and can delete the users data on the legacy product.

To prevent the hard reset from happening, when using an HDS and a legacy LMS, LCX or GlobalMap unit networked via Ethernet it is possible to delete all user data from the legacy units when performing Reset Fishing Mode on the HDS.

Reset Fishing Mode is used by the HDS to reset all of the settings in a selected fishing mode back to the factory defaults. This is a useful tool for the user to be able to restore the unit after they have made changes to the settings, especially sensitivity and colorline. When the user selects the Reset Fishing Modes option the HDS sends a message to the other networked sonar units, with our legacy units this message causes the unit to perform a hard reset. This restores the unit back to factory settings and deletes all user data.

To prevent this from happening we recommend disconnecting the legacy unit from the Ethernet network before performing a Reset Fishing Modes on HDS.

ok, damn thing worked fine when I plugged her in to see if she was getting power to the unit. So I'm thinking she is working fine. Get up to Bullards for the Winter nutcase rally and she wont turn on, damn what now. Troll around around most of the day without a front finder and every once in a while see if she turns on, but nothing. At about 2pm I see Flipit and Mac on the water and run over to see whats up and Mac is my tourney partner so I let him know the damn thing aint working again and go to turn her on and low and behold I hear her beep and she turns on.
So the rest of the day she is fine, the next morning though she did not come back on and did not turn on the whole day as I would occasionally try....
I would appreciate any troubleshooting advice you can give at thgis point, I will get a volt meter to see if she is even getting power. Seems like possibly the cabling has a short somewhere?
Thanks in advance,
Kap

I have a 102c and had/have a similar problem. I returned 3 units in succession to Lowrance through Linda Colt who used to be a rep for them and posted on the BBC site. It turned out that the fuse holder that comes with the unit is junk and when the unit is on for a while the springs heat up and the connection is lost. Upgrade the fuse holder and see if that fixes the problem.

I believe those units had a tube type fuse. The connections can get loose over time. Get a blade type fuse and holder of the same wattage and I'll bet your problems disappear.
