Navionics Platinum Maps

Post by Mike H »

I'm sure this has been asked before but I cant seem to find it.

I've got an HDS-8 and will be getting the HDS-10 soon and was wondering something, in your opinion is the Navionics Platinum Maps West Reigon worth the money? If so or not, please explain why.

Thanks
Mike Holbrook

Those chips are the real deal. If you aren't using them you are missing out on a lot of things that would take YEARS to figure out. It is almost like cheating.

Dont waste ur money on the platinum. Premium has exactly the same maps minus some bells and whistles... main difference was the call out of onshore landmarks like marinas and hwys and such.... also, if u can find a chip on or 2 years old, u will save a bunch of money too. I got the platinum for my hds8 and its freaking awesome!

Is this a contradicting statement or what?

1st - "It's a waste of money"

Then - "I got the platinum for my hds8 and its freaking awesome!"

Here's what features I've found useful with the Platinum software:

* High definition topographical mapping of lakes in Northern California is excellent.

* Mapping software is very accurate regarding contours, humps and depths -structure-.

* 3D rendering of mapping, panning, zooming and rotation.

* 3D display as you're actually moving throughout the lake. I've found this feature useful studying the lake prior to going out on the water.

* Filtering of contours lines within depths to simplify high definition detail.

* The HD mapping provides sufficient detail to study a body of water to plan your day, and locking GPS points of interest. [Nothing replaces actual time on the lake, but electronic mapping is an excellent place to start by locking in your points of interest.]

The upgraded software (Platinum) works very well with the Lowrance HDS units, and improves the overall use of your graph.

You will not be disappointed.....................

Good Luck,
Ed

Thanks everyone for the replies, my HDS-8 has Insight USA, would the Navionics Platinum compliment the Insight?

Looks like I'm going to have to get the chip. Now the next question is, who has the best price on them?

Yes, there is a night and day difference between the Platinum chip and what the Insight will show you..
Having said that, the cheapest place I have found is...

http://www.anchorexpress.com/Navionics- ... mpt-w6.htm

I paid $168.55 TMD because I caught them on sale but their regular price is better than any other place I have seen...

Has anyone seen it cheaper anywhere else?

Yeah Vince all those other ones are for difference regions of other country/world..
The one you want to get is the same one that I have which is model number MSD/HMPT-W6 which I linked you to..
In which I am sure it will work with your LCX 13HD as long as it has a SD slot.. I do suggest you double check the compatibility with Ken in the Lowrance portion of this forum or ask on the Lowrance Facebook page before purchasing..

"Navionics HotMaps Platinum Lake Maps - West on SD/Micro SD - MSD/HMPT-W6"

The West chip will cover: AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, ND, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY

Hope that helps...

Thanks Rod, that place went up in price. After some research I was able to find and order one for $175.00 with free shipping. It should be here next week.
