side imaging ?

Using the side imaging for structure is usefull,but what about the fish?With it set so just the edge of the bottom visable,and mostly water colum present.Are we to feel that the white blotches are fish targets.Mike

With Structure Scan you can see fish in the water between your boat and the bottom you are seeing. Individual fish appear as white dots and bait or a school of fish will appear as the white blotches you refer to.

Yes, you clearly see the fish all across the screen, in the black water area above the bottom, and within the bottom image as well. You can judge their size and distance above the bottom by the position of the shadow they create as well!

On DownScan (and even SideScan) you can more easily spot bass that are closer to the bottom than is possible with the conventional 2D sonar as target separation is better at those frequencies.
