Shallow Water Side Imaging

Post by Doug Vahrenberg »

Side Imaging is versatile for finding and locating Structure and Fish in all depth ranges up to 150' Depths. Here is an interesting shallow water image 5' of water. Let see who can identify all the structure and if there are any fish in the image. Can you explain what's happening in the image.

Weedline with maybe a couple fish on the left right in the middle? Is that one larger fish on the right towards the bottom?

The left side of this screen capture is a Grass Line you can see the wall of grass which is very defined. You also see the scattered grass out in front and it's short since it does not produce a shadow and the sonar waves can continue to the left even further. Two nice laydown logs near the grass. A stump. There are some small scattered branches near the boat path on both sides. One thing is the water column width does not change much so this is very flat where the boat was driven. Pretty much 5' deep all the way across. Half way across you see another laydown and a root wad (look at shadow very irregular) then just past that where it darkens is where this flat drops off into deeper water. Since Sonar cannot travel around corners this tells me the right side is dropping into deep water - pretty rapidly since there is absence of sonar returns. It's a flat next to a creek channel drop.
