side imaging left side stops working intermittently?

Post by bassrippin365 »

Iv'e had my structurte scan on my boat for about 6 months, for some reason my left side just stops reading. Everything else is working the right side and down scan. The first time it acted up, it stopped reading for half the day. The last time it went out, it only stopped for a couple of minutes. There are no kinks in the wiring and the transducer looks as new as the day I bought it. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I've taken pictures of what it is doing and I'll post them on here.ImageImageImage

The only thing I can think of right away is to check the menu settings when this happens and make sure the unit isn't changing the left/right view on it's own somehow to right view only. I will check to see if there is something else to look at and get back to you on here.

Yea I've flipped sides and it reads only the right side which is now reading on the left, so I know its not my screen messing up. The last time I was out i, I watched it go from working perfectly fine to messing up and back to perfectly fine all in about a two minute span.

First time I have seen that! Sounds like time to call Lowrance Customer Service. I would guess the left crystal is malfunctioning. Did you look closely at the transducer to see if there was any damage?

yes I did and the transducer looks brand new, not even a dirt mark on it. Boatmasters did the install and its mounted directly under the jacking plate. The only way I could see this thing getting damaged was if I got my boat stuck on top of a tree or something. An object would have to get in between the front of the motor and behind the transom to touch it. Is it possible that the transducer itself may be taking on water on the inside? I'm going to take it to boatmasters and have them take a look at it and see what they come up with, when I spoke to them a month ago when it did it the first time on Mclure, he said we should check the ethernet cable first and go from there. Me personally I agree with you , it seems the crystal for the left side is acting up. Unfortunately when it first did it a month ago, a gentleman from another site recommended that I unplug and replug all of the connections back in and then see if it fixes it. I did that and then took it out to Commanche to try it. For the first hour it was still messing up and then it started working fine and worked fine for the rest of the day. Now back to the unfortunate part, around 1pm my outboard decided to knock. This past month has basically been consumed with me trying to fix my outboard. Good news is the motor seems to be doing fine, bad news is the structure scan is still messing up. I'll give Lowrance customer support a call and see what they say. Thanks for all of the advice.
