Anyone have experience with 2001 225 Evinrude Rude Ram engine?
I can put it in neutral and rev it to full rpm and it sounds fine, I drop it in gear, press the hot foot and it boggs out and I cant get it on plane. (sometimes if I really feather it I can gradually get it on plane after three to four hundred yards).
I have heard that this can happen when a power pack goes bad or one of the jets is plugged but this does not seem to be the case.
A frined of mine told me that I need to have the computer pulled out and sent back to the factory for them to reload the operating program which would cost about $1200.oo; OUCH!
I have been looking on line and have seen that there is a program out there to reload the operating system that can be purchased and installed via lap top, has anyone heard of such a program?
Any way, I want to get back on the water as soon as possible and as cheap as possible so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Try posting this over at bass boat central, sounds like your issue is when it had a load on it, one simple thing to check is for fuel starvation, seams dumb but check the hose for any break down, the ethnol in the fuel nowadays is tearing motors up, it breaks down the inner liner in the hose and can cause major problems.
Be ready to provide your serial number for the engine and the guys over there are very helpfull.

Have you got your compression checked. Sounds like cylinder problems

George, I saw your post. Revving the engine to high RPMs while in neutral is a very bad thing to do. It can be very hard on reeds and this is possibly your problem right now anyway. It definitely needs to go to the doctor. It could be something as simple as a spark plug (I've seen that one lately). All techs are not created equal. I certainly don't know even a fraction of them but I would highly recommend Calvin in Redding at the old Oasis Marine and also, Brandt at Marine Unlimited.

As Gary said, it could be as simple as a spark plug. My bet is that you lost an injector. A good mechanic will figure out the problem pretty quickly and get you running right again.
