Re: New 2 Castro Valley directions to Clear LK please
I go a couple of ways from San Jose depending on traffic and where on the lake I am headed
if staying on the north end and or driving during the commute: 680 N to 80 east to hwy 12 to 121 to silverado trail. silverado trail to 29
if going up early and fishing the south end: 680 n to 80 east to 505 north to 16 to 20

I never do 80, it is like sucking a nipple on a boar hog! From Castro Valley I would do 580 east to 5 and go north – turn off on 16 west (W Main St) in Woodland and then to 20. I believe it is a lot smoother ride. You will also save the cost to get over the bridge.

Marty, Marty, Marty ... good thing I don't know anything about that sucking a boar thing ... but i do know that it's one hell of a drive around 580-5 to 16 to get to CL ... personally, I would recommend (if you don't mind driving around 10 miles of winding twisting roads) going up 880-80 across Richmond bridge to 101 to Hopland (175) ... that'll dump you at Kelseyville ... or ...Marty wrote:I never do 80, it is like sucking a nipple on a boar hog! an alternative route is to go up through 680-Hidden Valley-29 to lower lake. That's the way I would go.
That would be 205 miles (hwy5 route) vs. 122 miles (Hidden Valley route) ... with the price of gas these days, I'm going through Hidden Valley EVERY TIME!

If I was you I would take 680 to 80 east then the 505 interstate north to 5 and 5 to Williams west on Hiway 20...
I know it might be a longer route than some but I like that drive better than the others.
Good luck,
Kap

You cant fix stupid, but you can vote it out...

If you want to avoid the really curvy roads, try taking 580 to 101, then drive up 101 until you reach the 20. 20 will take you to the lake.
