Magical days on the water are nothing new for Jason and Tara Borofka. After all, it was while fishing at Nacimiento Lake that Jason proposed to Tara. They’ve been married now for 5 1⁄2 years.
Saturday was another one of those special days for this devoted angling couple. This time it was WON Bass Central Coast tournament No. 4 at Lake San Antonio. The Prunedale couple had fished in only one of tournament director Joe Gardiner’s 2011 tournaments and none this year.
However, the Borofkas were still on Gardiner’s e-mail list. Happenstance kicked in once they received an emailed tournament reminder April 16. By coincidence, both Jason and Tara had the weekend off. And Jason was eager to try out his newly-arrived Power Pole shallow-water anchors.
He completed the installation following the step-by-step guidance of Elite pro Jared Lintner in a Tackle Warehouse video. During Jason’s Friday practice at the lake, he locked in 35 bedding sites on his GPS.
“The Power Poles played a significant role in our winning the tournament,” Jason Borofka said. “They enabled us to turn off the trolling motor and position the boat at just the right angle so we could see fish on beds while not having to deal with the glare.”
All day they were able to quietly cast for nesting bass. Tara contributed four of the more than a dozen keepers the Borofkas caught. All were bed fish...
