Lucas Oil Summer Classic
Not trying to start any issues with this question. Genuinely want to know how it turned out.
Does anyone know where the results for the Lucas Oil event at Lake Mead have been published?
I couldn't locate them on the ABA website.

Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
I guess since it started today the the results of day one should post sometime this afternoon.
Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
The weigh in is at 2pm. I bet there will be a write up for the first day followed by the results posted later this evening, maybe 6-7pm. It would have been nice if they had a blurb about the number of boats, pairing and launch.
Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
my bad, thought it was held over the weekend, my days have been a little mixed up lately.
Thanks guys,
Thanks guys,

ABA doesnt do daily blurbs, write ups, or angler interviews. If they did, I'd be impressed and just might have to fish them again. MehThe weigh in is at 2pm. Pretty evident, the June to Aug/Sept. fishing comparison at Mead. If you were satisfied with your late summer type weight yesterday, you are off the pace.... Weather conditions playing a role? Anyone?

Tourney Orgs are like grocery stores... the ones that offer better prices, excellent service, and double coupons get my business. And, if they bag my groceries with a smile, then thats even better.Arm chair anglers say the same thing that if they.... They would fish. Well Wired2Fish is out here as well as 3 TV crews NBC Sports and MAV TV. If your not here your missing a great event. There will be more TV coverage from this than any other event held on the west.

You guys still dont get it. It a Lucas Oil event. They have contracted ABA to do the weigh-in. Thats as far as it goes. When I was involved with the Champion owners events out here, they were the "Tournament of Champions". Started by the factory, promoted by the factory and the weigh-ins done by.......................Guess who. ABA. Oh and BTW, those events averaged 330 boats. Understood Rick. In that light, ABA is just the contractor not the promoter. Regardless, seems like a fun event.

I have heard from some of the participants of this event and they are saying Lucas crew is awesome and those that did not fish made a huge mistake. Sounds like the event is on again for next year in the late April-May range. What the West needed is a big company, from outside the fishing industry to bring fresh money and ideas to this game and it sounds like we have it with Lucas Oil. Congrats to all who participated. Do you think you could get Lucas Oil to come out with a 2 stroke oil for Opti's that's manuf. approved, and cheap?
They'd get my business in a heartbeat.

The words cheap and oil can't co-exist in the same sentence anymore.
Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
I don't think you will ever hear a major outboard company recommending a specific brand of oil other than their own, and for good reason. I also would not use just any oil in my boat simply because it's cheaper or they sponsored a tournament, but that's just me. I am very brand loyal picky about the oil that goes into any of my vehicles, and in the case of my boat I stay with the manufacturers brand whenever possible.

Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
I understand brand loyalty, but can there be that much difference in each engine maker's two stroke oil. I doubt they are going to require we use junk, or a lesser lubricant, or they would face major failures, and all under warranty, so the repairs would come out of their own pocket.
If a two stroke oil meets the manufacturer's specifications, how can it be a problem.
Moreover, how can oil, that sells for $8+- a quart cost $35+ for two stroke engines? What do they put in it to make it two stroke approved, gold?
I think this just blackmail by the engine makers to force us to buy their overpriced oil to keep their warranty in effect. They make a huge markup on their own brand, and they don't even refine it themselves. It's probably all coming from the same refinery, and just "bottled" under their label.

Every mfg. has its own version of awesome sauce that they put into it.. oh, yeah, don’t forget about the 8 essential vitamins and minerals. heh
This was brought up before, but, isn't the whole point of sponsoring any kind of event is to get brand awareness and sell products (in this case oil-based) to retailers and consumers?

You're right, of course, that the point of sponsoring an event is exposure.
I was just hoping against hope that some company would throw down the gauntlet, and come out with a generic two stroke oil that we could use in any high performance motor, so we wouldn't be indentured servants any more, forced to buy the Owner's products at the Company Store.

I agree with you Rick. The Lucas crew are all great guys. We need companies like Lucas to bring money, ideas, and hopefully others will follow. This is what our sport needs. Lucas has a great reputation in everything they do. We are lucky they have decided to get into marine products. Thanks to all who participated in the event. It was great seeing a bunch of my buddies again. Can't wait for the next one

I use Lucas Oil in my Mercury and have since day 1. It has worked flawlessly. Lucas Oil will replace your powerhead if it is found that the oil is a cause of the failure. BTW, it is cheaper per gallon.mark poulson wrote:Rick,Rick G wrote:I have heard from some of the participants of this event and they are saying Lucas crew is awesome and those that did not fish made a huge mistake. Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
Good advise to anyone out there who owns an outboard - follow whatever reccomendations the manufacturer calls for. It's like anything in life. You either pay now or later. Not using the proper oil can void warranty as well so that's something to consider.
Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
No, it can't void warranty.
There is a law that states the manufacturer can only void a warranty if they provide the oil in question.
It will not void the warranty, and any oil that meets manufacturer specifications is acceptable to use in your engine at any time.

There is a law that states the manufacturer can only void a warranty if they provide the oil in question.
It will not void the warranty, and any oil that meets manufacturer specifications is acceptable to use in your engine at any time.

Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
I don't think it is really the manufacturers specifications but rather the NMMA specifications for TC-W3 oil. Here is a link to the NMMA certification: http://www.nmma.org/certification/certi ... tc-w3.aspx

What do I know? Use the cheapest oil you can find and see what happnes.
Re: Lucas Oil Summer Classic
There were a couple of minor hiccups with the draw on Sunday, but otherwise I thought everything else went really well. The launch and weigh-ins were quick and the fish were taken care of very well.
The real-time leader board was cool, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The fishing was great and hats off to my pros all three days, they fished at a very high level and knew the lake very well: Mike Brillhart, Ron Hammett, Sean Stafford. Every day we culled probably 4 or 5 times.
I would definitely fish another one!
