buying a gun on the internet

Post by Rod Martin »

Anyone know normal charges for the store that receives the gun and does paperwork for it?

75.00 plus tax on the price you paid for the gun.

So
tax on price of gun

$30 tranfer fee (background check)

and $100 for use of their FFL.

Would be a little much ?

Yes find a new FFL I have never paid over 75.00 for all fees at any FFL.
I'm seeing this more and more. Local shops are charging higher prices and when you shop and find a lower price they are jacking up the FFL fees.
Lots of gun shops trying to get over on new buyers right now.

what I have seen is if the gun is new, then the dealer charges you additional $ on top of the transfer. Their reasoning is that you could have bought it from them. There should be no tax on used guns, only new guns. Harry

Tracy Rifle And Pistol is $40 I believe. If your near Fresno then B&M GunWorks in Madera is a good place.

And depending on where you buy you may or may not have to pay taxes. I bought one recently from CO and was charged but I know my father who bought one from another state was not.

Mr. Rod Martin

are u planning to shoot the fish out of the water now??
How's it going buddy? R u going to fish Lake Pardee on the 28th? I had almost 70 fish two weeks ago but all were 1 to 2 pounders with only a couple of Smallies . I didn't catch any of the big fish I've heard so much about but things change daily. Hope to see u up there my friend, I'll have the back seat on my boat just in case. :D

I was not told about the $100 FFL fee till after my gun was in their hands. I'm not sure now that it has been shipped to them I have a way out.

It is a new gun but with weeks on the net I only found 1 on an auction and this place that had them , so its not like any local shop has them in stock.

Lesson learned go down to store and get fees in writing before having the gun shipped

Hi Will .

I would shoot them if I could just wound them and not have a dead fish

OK that was kidding. I wont make Pardee. was supposed to have my knee done , but ran into some Medical problems so working on them and knee replacement is set up for May 13th now IF my body doesnt screw up and have something else go wrong. Not sure how long rehab is for a knee. I hope to come out of the surgey and climb on the back of your boat to fish.

You did say all day on the water and lunch at one of your Delta hangouts . Right

Yep, I was going to buy my scope from them and have it installed during the waiting period. But I think now I may try to recoup my losses with an internet scope and self install. Something I dont normaly do.

Well I had my gun shipped there so I'll pay up.

But for anyone buying on the net.

Outdoor Sportsman in Stockton has a $100 FFL. use fee along with the $30 transfer fee and Calif. state tax on guns shipped to them.

That price is about normal market for an out of state gun being shipped into CA. If it was already a gun registered in CA, then you would not be paying the sales tax nor the state transfer. Only would pay the DROS of about $35.

Sounds like a communication problem to me. If you would have known the transfer fee before you had it transferred, you could have tried another dealer. $100 is what most dealers in my area are charging if they are even willing. Most of the local dealers would rather spend their time looking for guns and ammo from their suppliers than writing up transfers right now.

I got a CZ527 carbine in 7.62x39.

Small bolt action with a 3.11 barrel . Has about the same power as a 30-30.
