1999 Optimax Help

Post by TCS »

I seem to only have this problem when the temperature is really cold. The boat shifts into reverse with no problems but when I shift to forward gear, I get a light grind and the gear wont take. It seems after a few minutes after warming up the motor shifts with no problem. This happens only in the winter on really cold days, other than that I have no problem with shifting at all.

I have recently had the same issue with my 99 225 Opti. Changed the oil out and checked for metal and or water in the oil and had neither. Put new oil in and took it to the lake and had no issues but again it wasn't as cold. I would drain in the lower unit oil and inspect and see what you find! If nothing, replace the oil and go fishing!

Pull the cowl and look it where the cables hook up. Could need adj as it is cold and not moving freely.
