Best Camping Area at Delta

Post by DB »

We are planning a trip to the Delta in May and I was wondering if anyone has suggestions for places to camp. We will be sleeping in the truck and towing a bass boat. Will need electrical for charging.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Sugar Barge right down the street from Russo's is a good place also.

I've camped with my boys and a buddy at the KOA along Highway 20. Close to B&W to launch. I have requested the longest campsites they have (over 40 ft) so I can back up the boat and car without disconnecting, then pitch a tent nearby. You have to rent the sites for motorhomes. there is the pool too. However, it is a family area so it can be loud at night especially in summertime. We were adjacent to about 6 families camping together, but they had no problem walking through MY campsite to get to each other's site. They were respectful, outside of being loud, but that is what it is like there......

Another option is Brannon Island, if it is open. they have a great launch site. But I've never stayed there. No swim area that I know of, so probably less families and more quiet.

Since your coming to the Delta in the spring, one of the best and easiest places to fish for spawners is in Frank's Tract, and it's centrally located to most of the Delta. With that said, Russo's is number one Bethel Island which is at the west end of the Tract. As with most camping areas in these parts, space is limited and Sugar Barge or Beacon Harbor would be good alternatives if Russo's is full.

Bob,

Sugar Barge or Russo's will serve you well, Sugar Barge is much more "campground" then russos. Both have nice launch facilities and electric, both have clean restrooms and security. Russos wins cause there is a bait store right there and you dont have to stumble too far from the Rusty Portal. oh yes you MUST visit the Rusty Portal for food and Libations - Rum n Coke I believe it was? Give me a shout when you book your trip.

I dont think they make frogs in that color - and in May you are gonna want a frog tied on and ready all day

I still got that Smoke Purple Reaper and purple is a key color for me to this day but I dont do too much draggin unless im in deep doo doo - im a lil more of a Jig fisherman and reaction bite type of dude these days
