HDS 8 with down/structure scan tuning help?

I just installed on my ranger a hds 8 with lss 1. I went to clear lake this past weekand and did some playing around with the graph.i got my left and right switched over and can get to most things i want. im just not sure about the basic set up adjustments. I never did mark a fish on the sonar so not sure what i need to change also is there anyway to clear up the down scan/side scan seemed a little blury. it took me a day to realize i was marking rock piles i totally didnt put two and two together as for the size on the screen un til a marked a medal wall and seen how short on the screen it was. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

what is your frequency set at? The higher the frequency setting the better the resolution. You should be able to hit one of the bottom row buttons to switch from the high and low freq setting. Also, where is your transducer installed? You could be getting interference from turbulence? how fast are you idling? trying going on ur trolling motor to see if it helps.
