Lake Almanor

I have never been to this lake before.

Are there large mouth in the lake??????

Any tips would be appreciated.

Smallie lake, gets real windy, there should be a hex fly hatch going right now so if you fly fish, get some hex flies and bring those for sure.

There are largies on the west side flats. Look for stumps and grass and play around til you figure it out. I'll be up there for 4 days in a couple of weeks. I look forward to the trip every year. I always just target the smallies. They are easier to find and catch. I like the east side. Fish the shade (top water, jerk bait, etc..) as long as you can find it, then go deeper as the sun gets high. Drop shot, rigged senkos, jigs, dart heads etc.. If you want to get the kids on a fun bite, split shot live crickets or live crawdads in 30-40'. The wind up there in the afternoon is no joke and it can get real nasty in a hurry. Hope this helps.

There are largemouths in there, but we usually try to avoid catching them to allow the fish base to grow. in the BassFed, we dont allow them to weigh in at our tourneys.

We go for the smallie fishing there - its great.

For some real up to date information on Almanor pull up Shasta Cascade Bass Anglers on this website under bass clubs, and there you will find their May event on Almanor. Baits may change, but areas are still "go to"! How I miss SCBA and Lake Almanor.....it's an awsome smallie fishery! Not quite a awsome as Columbia River where I live, but a lot of fun fishin' there! As mentioned do respect the wind there, however! Jim M.

Nearly all largemouth are found around the northwest part of the lake and some along the causeway. Glad to hear that some tournaments don't allow largies to be weighed in - good idea!! Maybe they will become more established as the years go by. Look what has happened at Lake Tahoe - largemouth and smallmouth in the keys now and the population is growing. Also - the wind advise is right - watch out!!!

I tournament bass fish Almanor all the time. Once you figure out the smallmouth bite, you won't care to track down the largemouth there. Just had a tournament there and had 17.60 for 5 smallmouth and that was good for 3rd place. Winners had 19.36. Smallmouth is the way to go.

I have fished Almanor since the late 70's and finally caught my one and only largemouth there - on the causeway, a few year ago. A few weeks later, I caught my only spotted bass at Lake Amador. It looked like it was straight from Oroville!! So that finally answered my question if there were any spotted bass in Pardee. Pardee overflows into Amador. One just never knows what one might catch!!

Great fishery. Has everything. Bows, Browns, Salmon, Largemouth, Spots. Fished it every year for the past 20 years, spring and fall. bass fishing is great but don't miss out on the trout and salmon fishery. We had trips of 4-5 pound average on trout. Largest salmon was 8 pounds. All on light tackle.
