HDS 12/HDS 7 question
Im posting his question for my team partner. He has an HDS 12 in dash and an HDS 7 in the bow. While looking at the Chart page on the HDS 12, the "arrow icon" does not point in the direction that the boat is going. Is there any way to fix this? He has tried to recalibrate it to no avail.

Re: HDS 12/HDS 7 question
Does your partner have a Point 1 GPS antenna connected to the HDS 12 Touch? If so you will need to calibrate the GPS antenna, not the unit.
Make sure all HDS units have the current 3.0 update in them. You can download this free from Lowrance.com under "Support" and upload it into your Lowrance unit.
If you are using the internal GPS antenna and on the trolling motor, sometimes the arrow/cursor does not move as the boat moves slowly because of the slow refresh rate. If the arrow does not show the correct direction on plane, make sure the orientation of the Chart is North up. To change this go to the Chart menu and change from North Up to Heading Up. With Heading Up the arrow will point up on the screen as you move around the lake. If you have North Up, the arrow will point down if you are heading South, to the left if you are going West and left if you are heading East. This can confuse guys sometimes.
Hope some of this helps.

Re: HDS 12/HDS 7 question
Yes, he has the point 1 on the HDS 12 and there is an external GPS white puck GPS on the bow mounted HDS 7.
How do we calibrate just the GPS antennae?

To calibrate a Point 1 GPS antenna, go to Settings, then choose Network, then Device List and choose the Point 1 antenna and hit enter. Highlight "Calibrate" and follow the on screen instructions driving your boat in circles as the screen instructs. When done, the screen will show "Calibration OK". Close the menu and you're done.

Re: HDS 12/HDS 7 question
We have tried unsuccessfully to calibrate the point one antenna. I tried 2 times with the units not networked together and each time the calibration time to out and failed to calibrate great. I tried one additional time with the units both on and networked together and once again, it timed out and failed to calibrate. Do you have any other suggestions?
Re: HDS 12/HDS 7 question
Just for clarification, it appears as id the hds12 is the unit connected to the point 1 and the hds7 is running the internal gps

Ken Sauret,
any other ideas??

Re: HDS 12/HDS 7 question
This timing out issue has been discussed many times on Bass Boat Central. The consensus has come to this:
Be sure the software version is up to date.
Be sure both units see the Point 1 in the Device Name menu.
Make sure the Point 1 is supplying GPS position data and it is the selected antenna on the units you want to use it for.
If the antenna is secured with stainless steel screws try removing them and doing the calibration with the antenna unattached.
If the antenna is unattached you can do the calibration in a parking lot just turning it by hand. The cable will get one turn in it but it won't hurt it.
Make sure when you are doing the turn, you maintain the recommended turn rate.
You also state that the Point 1 is only connected to the HDS12 but then later you say you tried it networked and not networked. To be sure we are talking the same language, are the units networked together by NMEA 2000? Not Ethernet, that has nothing to do with GPS.
If nothing works after trying everything, you may just have a bad Point 1 antenna. Could try and exchange it for a new one.
