California Now Moving To Ban Lead in Tackle

Today, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) announced that common fishing tackle would remain on a list of consumer products marked to undergo a costly and onerous regulatory process, a reckless move that could lead to a ban on most of today's fishing tackle and will likely accelerate the decline in fishing participation, threaten jobs and reduce state revenue.

DTSC admitted in public hearings that it has no scientific studies demonstrating that lead poses an environmental problem in California. Yet, as evidenced its decision today...

"In 2010, the U.S. EPA ruled that lead weights do not pose an unreasonable risk to wildlife and this past December, President Barack Obama signed a budget bill that prohibits the use of federal dollars to ban lead fishing weights."

If the U.S. EPA says it poses no unreasonable risk, and the Feds won't fund a ban, why in the world is the State wasting time and money pursuing it?

"Because they can"? You don't believe lead is the cause of all evil? What's wrong with you don't you know as "sportsman" we're the route of all evil???!!!!!!!!! This is referred to, by me anyways, as policy change through pain in the @#%%$!* rules. There is never any real science to back any of it up just some theoretical B.S. that scares the hell out of the townies and bang we get to pay the price for their feel good rules with no real change other than cost increases. Had a great talk with Bobby Barrack at the rattle trap open about the water situation and his passion for this is compelling. We need to really stop shaking our heads and start getting involved.

Where is the anti-lead money coming from? Someone with deep pockets has to be behind this.

Thos Californians are so hip and cool, and so way ahead of everyone else. Glad they are so eco friendly. If their drought continues they may be hard pressed to find a fishin hole.

Maybe we'll get some "sim-water", so we can do some virtual fishing.

Why is California wasting money?
Simple: Liberal Democrats running the State and have been for years.
