salt water intrusion

Post by mark poulson »

At the Anglers Marine Owner's Tournament last Saturday at Castaic, it was mentioned that there was already salt water intrusion into Frank's Tract.
Anyone know anything about this?

They have erected a rock "dam" on False river to slow it down. Thinking about it, maybe they are going to do it in May. Anyway, it is a threat.

Interesting--I did a news search on increased Delta salinity levels but didn't find anything. What are the sources of the rumors?

Too bad we can't access real time CDEC salinity monitoring at that location like they have for other water quality indices (see: http://www.water.ca.gov/waterquality/dr ... f_rprt.cfm and http://cdec.water.ca.gov/queryTools.html and http://www.water.ca.gov/nav/index.cfm?id=106 and http://www.water.ca.gov/rtm/meta/). I bet we'll see an increase in starry flounder caught in the central Delta not too long from now.

Read the Evil Empire's emergency drought barrier page to catch up on the basics: http://www.water.ca.gov/waterconditions ... rriers.cfm

Would this conductivity chart help? I know salt water conducts electricity better that fresh.

I ran out to big break this weekend. Does this mean I need to worry about saltwater corrosion in my engine ? or does my engine get flushed when I spent the rest of the day deep in the Delta ?

big break has always seen jelly fish at certain time of year. I live before franks tract and i havent seen anything to indicate salt up that far. Sherman to big break will continue to increase tho, sherman has always been brackish, I imagine by mid summer big break will be like sherman used to be that time of year. definitely brackish where u can taste it

Makes me wonder just how much "salty" water the black bass can tolerate. The delta is already enough of a challenge to fish with invasive weed growth and changing conditions. Now we get this added to the equation. Wonderful.
