onboard charger not working?

Post by Kentuck »

When I started doing more fishing this spring, I noticed my batteries weren't holding up long. Would wind up on high at the end of the day and that seemed slow.
I put new batteries in and all seemed well. But the last two trips the batteries have given out after several hours of not a ton of running. I hooked up my regular charger and though I haven't been out the t-motor seems fine now.
Is my charger bad and if so, what recommendation do you all have for a replacement? Its a 24 volt system.

I`ve had dualpro chargers for a lot of years with no problems.
A good product backed by a great company with great customer support.

This might sound stupid but I have to admit I have fallen pray to making this mistake, check the fuses in the charging leads. I had the same thing happen and it turned out 1 of the fuses was out so I was really only charging 1 battery all night so it would work fine at start off then I'd end up on high by the end of the day with little power. Hopefully that all it is cause its way cheaper than buying a charger. maybe you've already checked all this but just in case. :D

You can use a 12v load tester. Disconnect or the changing leads, the charger should be 13+v @ 10+ amps for each bank.

Try checking that all your terminals are clean, and your connections are tight. Sometimes a loose connection is the problem.

Most onboard chargers have inline fuse on the positive wire lead for each bank.
Take a look at Norco Genius 3 onboard 12V, 10 amp per bank charger.
If you use a 15 amp per bank charger it may damage some types of batteries over time, AGM's for example.
Clean, tight, corrosion free connections are SOP!
Good luck.

Thanks all. No fuses on this one. Wiring comes out of the box and straight to the batteries. No external fuses.
