Minn Kota - Lowrance HDI Interference

Hey guys,

My Motorguide 109 died on me and I picked up a used (really good condition) Minn Kota Maxxum 101. Install went well, got it in the water to test, and noticed that every time I hit the button I noticed a big time interference with my Lowrance HDI 7. Now, this is not the built in transducer. I have a universal mount and it's wired as it was before with the Motorguide.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so how do you fix?

the minnkota's with us-2 have a ground wire on the brush plate
the connects to the neg side of the light thru a fuze.
that is supposed to remove the blacking out.
or you could put a wire from the neg side of the trolling motor
battery to any ground on the boat. preferably one of
the out boards mounting bolts. I'd do that first it's a lot cheaper
than having the ground installed in the motor. i can tell you from experience
that's a pain.

Thanks Jim. So you saying to add an additional ground wire to the motor mount? Would that be inside the compartment or run it outside?

Mamalinao, there are some setting on your HDS7 that will help clear up your interference. If you call me I can talk to you better then doing all this typing. I have cleared most of the Minn Kota with out the ground.

the ground wire goes in the motor so a complete
disassemble of the motor to get to the brush plate.
it's a pain. I've done about 12 of them they all worked
except 1 and that came down the the setting on the unit.
