LAKE COUNTY, Calif. (KCRA) —A California Department of Fish and Wildlife warden drove his vehicle through a raging fire to save a young girl and two women minutes before the Valley Fire engulfed their home, officials said Friday.

Timothy Little was patrolling the town of Cobb on Saturday when the Valley Fire ignited and started to consume the small town, which has a population of 1,780.

At some point Saturday afternoon, an emergency call went out that a woman was trapped inside her home on Pine Summit Road.

Little heard on his radio that other authorities were unable to respond because of fire and debris in the roadway. Little decided to head toward the home and drove his four-wheel patrol vehicle through the fire and burning road hazards.

When he entered the house, Little found the woman trapped along with her 11-month-old granddaughter.

Little was able to quickly get the woman and child out of the home and into his patrol truck away from the fire before flames engulfed the home.

After this initial rescue, Little heard a call about another woman needed rescue because of medical needs. There were no medical transport crews able to assist the woman, so Little drove five miles to Hot Springs Road, in Middletown, to help the woman.

The woman was trapped on the second floor of a home, unable to walk. He carried her down a flight of stairs to a resident’s vehicle and then provided an escort to a hospital, where the woman is currently recovering from her injuries, CDFW officials said.
