Tate/Mabery top WON BASS Casitas 2/27

Post by Rich Tauber »

The largest field of the 2016 season went to work at Lake Casitas on February 27, 2016. With 24 teams packed into the Marina Café for the morning meeting reality began to sit in as anglers approach the halfway point of the season. Unfazed with the team of Ryan Mabery and James Tate as they dropped a 21.41 pound bag of bass on the scales and collected a whopping $2,460.00 in cash for their one day effort. They explained to a large crowd at the award ceremony they applied a drop shot plastic worm, jig and their usual methodical approach to capture their victory and move into 2nd place in the Angler of the Year standings. Having to fish solo was the biggest obstacle facing Ken Vanderburg as he had to net 21.14 pounds of bass all by himself as he captured second-place and $1,010.00 in cash. Lake Casitas superstar Larry Elshere and his daughter Michelle stated their claim with their third-place finish and a 5 bass sack weighing 20.82 pounds to collect $680.00 in cash. Larry knocked off their kicker early in the morning and Michelle calmly went to work filling out the rest of their bag. Fourth-place went to team tournament stars Mike Arujo and Stan Vanderburg as they gathered a 19.23 pound bag to nab fourth place and $210 in cash. Kurt Ebken and his son K.C. Ebken put together a 19.18 pound bag of fish and collected the Spencer Makenzie Fish Company Award and $200 in cash for their fifth-place finish. The next stop on the WON BASS “Casitas Region” tournament trail is March 12, 2016.
