B.A.S.S. New Rod Length Rule. Will Other Circuits Change?

Post by ACP »

With B.A.S.S. change their rod length to 10 feet will all the other tournament circuits follow their lead. I'd like to hear what WWBT, BBT, ABA, CTT, & any other circuit her in the west has to say about their thoughts on the new rule change.

The sight fishing guys will love this during the spawn. All of the springtime tournaments will be won by guys using the longer poles on the bed fish.

Currently FLW rules do not state a maximum length on rods. There is no mention of length restrictions in the WWBT and CTT rules states 9 ft rods max. Not sure about the other circuits you mentioned.

Seems like everyone thinks BASS rules apply to all tournaments. Just a reminder to always read the rules for whatever tournaments you are fishing, some things might be different than you assume - like nets, horsepower, number of rods for co-anglers etc.

30 years late Dee Thomas for whom the rule was made to prevent his 12' flipping rods.
The swimbaiters using 9' rods should be happy.

Many orgs fixed this rule years ago. WWBT has no length restriction and FLW never has had one. It's a stupid outdated rule from the old boat on boat/ pro on pro days. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about BASS and the rule.

Randy Pringle gave the following update for BBT.

For 2017 the BBT will be continuing the existing 8-ft rod rule. During the year, we will consider the impact that the 10-ft rod allowance will have on our anglers and our circuit. We will revisit the situation next September at our advisory meeting and consider a rule revision for future seasons.

From Fred Fullerton on ABA

"For now we do allow a 9 foot rod, More Info too come."
