CDTT Big Bass Tournament - 8 April 2017

Post by DanF »

The California Delta Team Trail (CDTT) is hosting a "big bass" tournament on the CA Delta April 8, 2017 out of Russo's Marina on Bethel Island. This is a new concept for a largemouth bass tournament purposely scheduled during the peak big bass season on the Delta. This is a tournament for fisherman of all skill levels with a low buy-in; come try your luck against some of the Delta's best anglers. The goal is to have fun and spread the payback as far as possible - read the options carefully (you can win money even if you don't weigh a fish)! We're trying to create some of the "old school magic" with no membership required for this event and a large turn out - we want to get 200+ anglers for this event. The Discovery Bay Youth Foundation will offer a barbecue after the weigh in and during awards.

Ador Lopez, one of the best TD's on the Delta, will run the event and all winnings will be published for complete transparency.

Tournament Rules
This is a largemouth bass tournament, paying back one-in-five based on the heaviest weight for a single fish (“one-in-five” is calculated from the total number of tickets – not the total number of contestants). Each contestant can weigh one (1) largemouth bass per ticket with each ticket costing $50; tickets must be given to the Tournament Director’s staff at weigh in or the contestant’s fish will be disqualified. Contestants are encouraged to “team up” in a single boat; a single boat can have a maximum of three (3) contestants and five (5) tickets (five tickets per boat is the maximum irrespective of the number of contestants on the boat; a contestant fishing solo on a boat can purchase up to five tickets, or three contestants on a single boat can purchase up to five total tickets). Contestants are allowed to “exchange” tickets on their boat (i.e., participants can give their ticket to another registered team member on their boat); however, exchanging tickets with contestants on other boats is prohibited. Contestants must declare who is fishing from their boat as part of their team, purchase all tickets, record their ticket numbers, and pay for all desired options when signing up for the event; no changing of teams, purchasing additional tickets, or buying additional options is permitted after contestants submit their entrance form and payment to the Tournament Director’s staff. Contestants can win for more than one fish if their largemouth bass are heavy enough to qualify for prize money and they possess a ticket for each fish at weigh in time. Each largemouth bass must measure at least 13” in length and at no time must a boat possess beyond the legal limit of fish in their livewell. All ties will be adjudicated in the following manner: prize money for all contestants that tie either in the main tournament or options will be summed together and then equally split amongst the contestants that are tied. Starting position will be based on a random draw the morning of the tournament, and the Tournament Director has final adjudication on any misunderstanding or disputes arising from the rules. All contestants must be present to win prize money (either from the main tournament or any of the options); contestants that leave prior to the distribution of prize money will forfeit their prize and it will be awarded to the next eligible contestant. All other rules from the CDTT apply except where they conflict with rules listed herein.

Just-Out-Of-The-Money Option: The “just-out-of-the-money” option costs $20 per boat/team (maximum of one entry per boat/team) and will pay back 100% to entrants of this option weighing the next five (5) heaviest largemouth bass that don’t qualify for prize money in the main tournament. Entrants can win multiple times in this option if their largemouth bass are heavy enough to qualify for prize money and they possess a ticket for each fish at weigh in time; contestants can also win prize money in this option if they win money in the main tournament. This option will be paid back in the following manner: 1st place 35%, 2nd place 25%, 3rd place 15%, 4th place 15%, 5th place 10%.

Gas & Tackle Option: The “gas and tackle” option costs $20 per boat/team (maximum of one entry per boat/team) and will pay back 100% five (5) randomly drawn entrants of this option in the following manner: 1st place 35%, 2nd place 25%, 3rd place 15%, 4th place 15%, 5th place 10%. Any boat/team entered in this option with contestants that win money in the main tournament or the just-out-of-the-money option is ineligible to win money in the gas and tackle option.

Skunked Option: The “skunked” option costs $20 per boat/team (maximum of one entry per boat/team) and will pay back 100% five (5) randomly drawn entrants of this option in the following manner: 1st place 35%, 2nd place 25%, 3rd place 15%, 4th place 15%, 5th place 10%. At weigh-in time, each boat/team entered in this option can decide to either weigh fish or enter their tickets in the “skunked drawing bin.” Even though boats/teams choosing to not weigh fish can drop all their tickets in the “skunked option drawing bin” in lieu of weighing fish, a given boat/team can only win once in this option – and their winnings will be based on the first of their fish tickets pulled from the skunked option drawing bin (subsequent fish tickets pulled from a winning team will be disqualified). Any boat/team entered in this option can win money even if they win money in the “gas and tackle” option.

Dan it seems like you'll be partnering with Ador of the CA. DELTA TEAM TRAIL to hold this event. For preregistration do we contact Ador or you? It seems like a fun event and should draw a crowd, just would hate to have to register the morning of the tournament. It makes things easier on the anglers and tournament director if you preregister.

Can you clarify the "just out of the money" option? So you're saying out of 100 tickets, the top 20 will win "main event" money based on the 1 in 5 payback ratio, and 21st to 25th place will receive the "JOOTM" option?

Thanks for your interest. Ador is running the tournament, please contact him per normal for a CDTT event. Several of us seasoned (read: old) tournament anglers have been helping Ador with this concept. He is currently tending to some personal business so he asked us to help get the word out. Yes, your understanding of the JOOTM option is spot on. Please note that you can win multiple times in the main tournament and JOOTM option - so "top 20" is top 20 fish, not top 20 anglers. Obviously, you must be in the option to win option money.

The tournament date is a few weeks away - and two days before the full moon! Given the spring we've had thus far, we'll probably see some of the biggest fish of the year. Grab your significant other, kid, co-worker, partner, parent - whomever and come have some fun. You only need to catch one, any cast could be a check! Heck, you don't even have to catch a fish to make a little money and cover the low entry fee.

Ador and I met today to fine tune the logistics for this event. Unfortunately, the event is no longer affiliated with the Discovery Bay youth foundation (they are planning their own separate event in the future). Ador will serve as tournament director and all of the rules above apply. It will be a great event, please show up early to ensure a smooth blast off at first light - and bring cash! We plan to break the field in flights separated by 20 mins based on a random draw the morning of the event. Don't miss out on the options; they are purposely designed to spread the money to as many participants as possible. You just might win more in the options than in the main event. Listen to Kent the next two week-ends as we plan to discuss the event on the radio. Minimum buy in is $50 (one ticket) and you can test your skill (or luck) against some of the Delta legends. No pre-fishing required as any cast could land you in the money. The big girls are snapping! Keep an eye out for Ador's emails or check out his CDTT web site.
