Xi5 link to hds gen 3 HDS Question

Post by jusnitta »

If I am only connecting 1 Hds gen 3 unit to the Xi5 trolling motor, Do I have to buy gateway and the nmea Cable package?
I just want to make use of all the functions but not spend more than I need to. I see theat the connection between the 2 are gateway and Cable but do I really need gateway with tthe hds gen 3 unit?

Just a heads up. I have had this unit for almost a year now. It's not 100% reliable. When in anchor mode or heading mode , it just takes off once in a while. when you use the lowrance screen to control it , it works well, but sometimes loses connection and shuts off or heads off in some random direction or in circles. I have not yet been able to pinpoint the problem. Warranty service has not helped at all.
However, when it works its great, you just have to be aware of it all the time as its got a mind of its own.

Bass Hack I have never had that happen, but, while underway I have had other boats wave action push me off my route. This is caused from not having a true heading sensor. The Point-1AP helps but still, not a real heading sensor.
I fixed my problem by adding the Precision-9 compass. Now when wave action moves me off my route, the Precision 9 finds my way back.
