Record Bass Caught on McNugget

Post by WB Staff »

...Matthew McNellis and his girlfriend went fishing in May at Lake Bardwell in Ennis and had no luck catching anything, McNellis told KDAF. ...

McNellis' girlfriend then suggested using a chicken nugget they bought from McDonald's as bait. To their surprise, they reeled in a 2-and-a-half-foot long bass that weighed more than 10 pounds. ...

...The bass won't be turning into a Filet-O-Fish sandwich anytime soon. The couple tossed the bass back in the water at the end.

McNellis told the station that he planned on continuing the fast food bait trend by using Wendy's seasoned French fries the next time he goes fishing. ...

I can see it now .... big bait anglers throwing full sized fried chicken breasts with their swimbait rods

Nice fish, interesting story. Horrible fish handling skills, might as well have turned it into a sandwich.

If that bass was on a bed and the McNugget was thrown on the bed you don't think the bass would pick it up in order to move it off if nothing else?

NOPE !!! And, nothing in the story says they were bed fishing. I stand by my assumption ! But, it is just MY opinion !

I've seen sooooo many large bass caught on uncooked hotdog pieces. It actually makes me question why I spend so much money on lures :)
I see kids at all kinds of lakes- local ponds and large reservoirs stroke em with hot dogs.
One was talking to one kid a while back who was catching em one after another - he tells me - "when I come with spicy kielbasa it's twice as good as this".

Crazy story but I can believe it! I take my boat to San Pablo Res and bass fish all the time cause I live so close. People there catch accidental bass all the time on carp bait and frozen anchovy and all kinds of weird stuff and some of the bass are in the 8-10 pound range. 2 yrs ago a guy caught a 6 ft sturgeon on powerbait so go figure?
