Clear Lake fishing ability?

Post by Devon8604 »

Hey guys,

Wanting to head up for a fishing trip on CL. Any news on 1. If you can launch anywhere and 2. If so, how has the bite been? I've struggled so far on CL this year so any advice is much appreciated. I need a redemption trip. Tight lines!

Most major ramps are open. I'd stick mid-lake up. Lil smokey.....

I am sure that the community would love to see you and have your support! (this is not sarcasm) From what i have gathered is all launches are open, if it were me going up i would launch redbud or the oaks go visit Jimmy, get a breakfast sandwich, fill up the gas all locally to clear lake.

Currently hwy 20 is still closed (with mandatory evacuations in place) from hwy 53 all the way to upper lake roundabout due to the fires.
Police and nat. guard are blocking entrance. That could change anytime between today and Sat.
This rules out the oaks and lucerne ramp, so it is redbud, the casino or lakeport.

(I am currently evacuated out of the oaks).

Update wed aug 8, 12:pm -- They just opened hwy 20, though still under advisory evacuation (be ready to leave immediately if things degenerate).

The fishing has been good at Clearlake this past week was able to make it out while nearly no one was on the lake. The top water bite from 6am-9am has been best then heading out to deeper water around 9am-10am throwing LV 500s or deep diving crankbaits. There is still a lot of smoke so if your sensitive to that you may want to wait a week. With not many people fishing the last 10 days the lake is not has pressured as it normally would be so makes for a much better bite especially on those popular spots Henderson,Shag Rock etc. The only launch ramp that is closed is state park from what I have heard.

smoke is 10/10 if you come bring a 95 mask and wear it. Bite is ok, but dont leave anything in sight in your vehicle there's more than a few bad ones from the back country still evac'd. Dan
