Ned Rigging Newman Lake

Post by ttb31183 »

I made a repeat trip to Newman Lake last week and it was not nearly as good as last time. I still caught plenty but the average size was way down. I had to resort to finesse fishing as they did not want to touch a moving bait this trip. It was pretty surprising that they wouldn't chase with all of the smoke from the fires basically creating lowlight conditions for most of the day.

I decided to start throwing a Ned Rig since the bite was so tough and it basically started out with piles of these. But, I continued throwing it.

My biggest of the day was 4.5lbs and came on the Ned with light line. This technique catches small ones for sure but the big ones will still bite it. I doubted it at first when I tried it a few years ago and only caught dinks but I've learned that it just works when things get tough.

I'll be making one more trip out there this week if I can bear the smoke. It's been even worse here these past few days.
