Where do you take your reels to get service/ clean?

Post by Jalseng »

Where do you guys usually take your reels to get clean and service? How long do you have to wait for it to be finished and returned? Or do you just do it yourselves?

I do it myself and if it is something that i am not able to do I take mine to the GEE SPOT - Gordon does great work on reels and rods. I know that Dan at Reel Ex has a great reputation and has serviced a few of my reels in the past.

I have used Larry's Reel Repair and Cleaning out of Vacaville several times, he's definitely my go to guy. I have also used Reel-Ex, and can't say a bad word about them either. Both offer a very good turn around time, professional service / repair and great communication.

I've had excellent service on my reels, also beautiful rod wraps or just putting my rods back to a fresh new rod look. Tods in Benicia ca. Believe it's tods custom wrap.

Basics lube and service I do myself. For repairs, Alan Tani in SF is the man! Very good service.

I use an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner filled with Pine Sol. Run your reel through that solution a couple cycles, rinse and dry with compressed air or air dry. Oil and lube.
If you have two like reels it's easier since you can use the other reel as reference.

Awesome info guys, didn't know there were many places that did this kind of service, as googling usually show 1 or 2 locally and the rest were out of state. I personally do my own reels and also for friends/ family, but when I own 20+ reels its take some time to do that many especially since its only done once a year.
