Jacob Traba takes home $10,000 and the title of 2018 KBF Clear Lake Champion

Jacob Traba of Pacifica, CA has made a name for himself in his rookie season on the competitive kayak fishing circuit. In addition to this most recent win, he is the 2018 MKA TOC Champion, finished 2nd in the Yak-A-Bass Lake Berryessa event, and has 2 top 10 finishes in the KBF Trail Series. Although he is he is new to the kayak fishing scene he is not new to bass fishing. He has over 25 years of experience including 5 in big boat competition.

For this latest victory, Jacob employed a 1-2 punch combination with a Chatterbait and Dropshot. He started out day 1 fishing a 100-yard stretch of water where he landed 3 keepers early on the Chatterbait in shallow weed beds. Once that bite died off, he switched it up to a Dropshot on the outside edge of the weed line. He finished day 1 with 91.25 inches. On day 2 the bite was even better on the same stretch of water. He was able to boat a 5 fish limit by 7:30 AM on the Chatterbait and then moved out a little deeper to pick up some Dropshot fish. At 11:00 AM he landed his biggest fish of the tournament, a 22” Clear Lake Chunk! He ended day two with 90.25 inches for a 2-day total of 10 fish that measured in at 181.5 inches. For his efforts, he took him the title of Champion and huge $10,000 check!

The season is not over yet, his next stop is the Costa FLW Series event on the California Delta September 27-29. He is currently sitting in 6th. Place in the AOY race for the Co-Angler division. Whether he’s fishing out of a kayak or a bass boat, he is a force to be reckoned with.
