Curado 200 HG problem

Post by wildthing jr »

Hi All,
I recently purchased a new curado 200hg. I opened the side plate to adjust the brakes and now can't get the latch to fully close. After a cast or two the side platepops open. I phoned Shimano customer service this morning. The person that picked up said something like there is a tech in charge of this problem. Then I got transferred into a voicemail box. I left a message, but have not heard back from them yet.

Has anyone else out there experienced this problem? I had a couple buddies look at the reel to make sure I wasn't the problem and they couldn't shut the latch either.

Hey Wildthing,

I went through the same oh shoot moment with my HG reel when I first got it. For me it was the spool access release switch at the bottom of the reel wasn't re-setting so I had to PULL it forward tightly until it clicked. I then took it apart and added a drop of oil to it and no problems ever since. But i did have to use some force on it to hear it CLICK.

Could be a bad latch. I’ve had issues with mine before, backed up the spool tension and it closed right up.

Its not the latch. Back your spool tension off. You have it too tight and it's not allowing the door to close properly. Dan

Yes, backing the tension off allowed the latch to close. I never had that type of setup on any of the previous versions of Curados I have owned over the years.

Thank you all!

Disappointing that Shimano customer service never called me back.

I'm not going to make any comments regarding Shimano's customer service, but if anyone on this board ever has an issue, my phone is always on and I'm happy to assist.

I can always put you in contact with the proper person if there is an issue I cannot help with, which are few.
