Cranking Rod for 8 & 10XD’s ?

Post by RJB »

I’m in the market for a new rod that fishes the deep diving cranks like a 10XD, smooth and easy. Would like a rod that is around 7’6. All the cranking rods I’ve been looking at, only handle up to a 1oz bait. Please help me! Thanks

I'd use my G Loomis Medium Bucktail rod. 7' 7" 17 -40 1-3ozs. I LOVE this rod and use it for swimbaits, frogs. Flip'N.Whatever. Pairs up nice with a Shimano 300e. I just looked and didn't see this rod in the muskie section. I'm old and so is the rod. I gotta contact them as I don't want an 8 footer for a replacement when the time comes

6th Sense has an 8’ cranking rod rated for up to 2oz lures that works very nicely! It’s my go to rod at Clear Lake for the big crankbaits.

We build 3 rods I'll recommend. The 806CB was made for the 10 XD and throws the 8XD extremely well too. Paul Mueller (Today's BASS Champ) wanted a signature rod for 10 XD because it's one of his top baits and he loves Glass. So I made an 805 CB Glass with his name on it. We sell some of both. If you're looking a little shorter you ought to look at our 794 SB. I haven't thrown an 8 XD on it but I think it's the real deal for 10XD. That bait is a man killer to fish and the 794 SB makes it very fishable. THX!!!

Thanks Gary, how about the 795 SB? I can’t afford the 794 right now. I would love to have another rod to throw A-Rigs on as well as 10XD. Thanks

The 795 SB would throw the 10XD but it's powerful. The 794 SB is awesome.

I can build you what i feel is the best rod. 8 foot all custom to what you want. PM me if you’re interested. I throw 10XD’s, G87’s and DD22’s all day.

I use a Falcon Lowrider 7’9” Heavy. It is built for those big cranks. Love it.
