Slack Tide on Dirty D

Post by monte300 »

Hey fellas I’ve been fishing the Delta the better part of 30 years and even though I know the length of the slack tide varies, is there an average length of time the tide is not moving at all?

I would think there are too many variables involved to come up with average time periods for slack tides such as wind generated wave action and or large amounts of runoff coming into Delta from major rivers for example . The higher the tidal difference between hi and low tides would seem to indicate a shorter slack tide period cycle as a general rule . Ultimately "it is what it is" just like the projected tides / times for that day that don't match up .

Monte too many variables I’ve seen it sometimes where it feels like it stays slack forever and some days where it feels like she just turned around. Depends on where your at in the system, how big the swing is.

But as a 30year veteran I’m sure you know you fish the tide you got or run to the tide ya want. I’ve gotten my PB on the top of the high and second PB bottom of the low in the same spot on the same day. Fish the fish and conditions cause that tide is always changing
