Lost Temp reading with latest software updates

Post by R. Duzac »

Does this happen often?

I've only had the Carbon 12's for about 8 months and seems like I've gone through this several times now.
I'm so tired of it, I haven't bothered to try to figure it out this time.

I like the units but I'm tired of the problems.

The best way to handle this is to set your MFD's up the way your like, pages, splits, overlays, etc...then save your settings to an sd card. Next time you run an update, when done, insert your sd card and upload your saved settings. BINGO, done, fini, settings restored.

So even though I've created the MFD's they may get damaged during a software update?
They are there, the temp just isn't working.

Guess I misread you, maybe you could explain 'not working' a little more in depth.

There are times during a software update that a Lowrance unit will not recognize a source for a certain reading like temperature or time. Go to Networking and then to Data Sources, hit Sonar and make sure the Temperature is getting it's data from the correct transducer or remote temp sensor you may have.

Thanks Ken, It was one of the first things I did.
I tried both sources in the network and neither would display temp.
For now I'm just giving up. Glad it's summer.

Upgrading Marine Electronics Software Best Practices

1-Back up your current MFD settings and waypoints, trails, and routes to an appropriate storage device (SD Card).
2-Visit your manufacturers website and follow the instructions for the download to your SD card.
3-Connect your SD card to your MFD and upload your software update.
4. Remove the SD card and do a HARD re-set on your MFD.
5. Insert your SD card with your saved settings, waypoints, trails and routes and import to the MFD.
You are now updated and have the exact same settings as you had prior to the update.

Looks like 5 easy steps, but it is really only 3 easy steps, 2, 3, & 4. Steps 1 and 5 should be current and constant.

Thanks Edd,

I haven't even gone into the garage to play around with them since 4th weekend.
I have a Club Tourney this weekend so I will probably look at everything again.
I like what you are saying about saving settings to second chip.

I work at Cisco Systems and the one thing I hate is mandatory updates by IT, they push updates out without checking them thoroughly. I know to back things up here before the update, I guess it should be no different with my boat electronics.

Thanks,

Still looking for help. Temps (both graphs) still aren't working.

2 HDS Carbons (Console & Bow) (1.5 years old at best)
Console has PDRT-WBL All in one Transducer (SN: 003-6397-000)
Bow has HDI (83/200)? (SN: 003-8766-00)
Software Version 19.1
Application 62.1.114
Platform - 35.0-82-g7654be2aa

With Latest Software download I have lost both Temp readings.
I doubt that both transducers decided to fail at the same time so I assume it's probably a software update problem.

I've gone into Sonar/installation and made sure the proper transducers were selected and saved. Then Restarted. Still no temp readings. I also deleted old Temp readings on my screens and recreated them.
Temp set for Channel 1 (Turned Network on, with multi devices)

I really believe its software or must not have something set. User error :-)

Thanks,
Rene

Rene the part# doesn't match the nomenclature. But if you have the PDRT- where did you mount the remote temp sensor? Also you can check your data sources for temp just to make sure that source did not get changed somehow.

Edd, Since I bought the boat 1 year used I did not do the setup myself.
I thought the all in one transducer would have the Temp as part of it. Was not aware of a remote temp sensor.
Sounds like I need to do a little more searching.

Maybe that's what it is, I need to identify what is the Temp sensor, not the Transducers.

Ug
More work :-)

Thanks,
Rene
