Bubba Dropshot

Post by Schneider Fishing »

Anybody out there doing any bubba dropshotting? The other day I took an 8 inch worm out to the pool. I first put it on a standard texas rig and then on a dropshot rig. I noticed that when I had slack in the line of my dropshot rig the bait would sink to the bottom and look just like a texas rig. Since then I've been thinkiing about dropshotting some of those bigger worms and lizards and brush hogs. Has anybody been bubba dropshotting?

No - You should NEVER use a full size worm with a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG hook on a full size worm rod. It willl NEVER work. It will NOT catch some of those finicky bass. I would NEVER recommend it. OK - I am gonna stop laughing now.

I have been doing this for a while. There is also a good artcile by Cooch in the library on this very subject. http://www.westernbass.com/dotcom/libra ... ml?id=2380

Short memory, that's what our 5/lb plus came on at Perris Tournament. Dropshotting a Brushhog. :o  8)

Do you Think Ray Hates it?

Post by Kelly Ripa »

I will do it but it is rare and the circumstances must be extinuating. Last years Nutcase event dropshot figured very heavily and had 3 in the top five competitors dropshoting Clear Lake. The drop shot can be your friend just don't try to get Ray on board and besides what would gator know...Zing! Ray's got more clubs in his bag than he knows what to do with now and I admire his skipping the dropshot in lieu of bigger fish techniques. I am a mere mortal ( weak at that ) and thrill at any tug I can get. Remember how far your worm fell from where you had your weight? That part of the rig is negoitable so try shorter/longer tag ends of line to weight and you will have a lifetime to let us know how it works.

Drop Shot works, it's as simple as that......

Post by JohNNy Utah »

but people eather love it or hate it. I've caught quite a few large fish with it and will ALWAYS have it in my bag of tricks. Bubba Shot seems to work ok, but nothing beats a 4" or 6" stright tail worm when things get tough. For me anyway. My 2 cents.

Re: Bubba Dropshot for night fishing.........

Post by Gerryjig »

great way to fish the night tourneys......my typical setup is 10-12lb. test, a 3/16 DS weight swimming a 7in. chubby A.C. straight-tail worm in Low Rider or anything close.......brush-hogs and creatures too. I've caught some double digit fish on this and it definately works. If I go any bigger in baits, I just T-Rig them with 20lb.

Dropshot... big fish? My 13-7 at the delta came on a dropshot. I fish the brush hog, creature and sinko on a dropshot very sucessfully. I have what's called a double-shot... I put a small sinker half way between the hook and the larger sinker on the bottom. This allows the bait to drop as fast as it goes up when you shake it. Makes it move more eraticly... drives 'em nutz.

Good-luck

KOA -

I use a 1/0 or 2/0 hook (sometimes larger depending on the bait), a 5/16 or larger weight and 1 to 3 foot length, depending on the situation. This is on a 7 foot rod with a minimum of 15 lb. Flourocarbon line. YOu need to experiment and find what works best for you.

Gator,

So this is set up Texas with a 1 -3 foot tag line instead of the normal 4-12 inch tage line (weight line)?

Depending on the cover, you can do texas or nose hook. If you look on the pics page, the 9.02 my dad caught was 3 foot tag, nose hooked trick worm.

I used it for years before I left California.

16-20lb floro line, 5/0 EWG hook 2-3" above a drop shot weight.

12" deadly duo green wennie worm in ribbon tail

zoom cotton candy lizard

sometimes a 12" deadly duo straight tail.

From Jan thru April works great on the northern lakes
