Been fishing a few times there but haven’t figured out what the big smallmouth are eating. Anybody know?

Trinity doesn't have Shad or smelt it does have Kokanee, crawdads and bluegill for forage base plus planted rainbow trout and King salmon, plus brown trout and largemouth bass all targeting the same forage base.

Did The Houseboat Trips on Trinity....

several times and hired a guide for first day out in the Ranger. He told me about, and provided a bag of plastics for a small, native bottom prey. Don't remember the name, dark to almost black and in the two to three inch size range. Try Phils Props up in the Redding area, great selection. Caught several smallies over four on those things!!

3/4 oz Dark Sleeper in Haze or Donko, cast it out, let it hit bottom, reel slow, and hold on.
